What governs your knife making design & features?

Now, I am not selling a horde of knives (yet), but have managed to sell pretty much everything I have made so here goes: First and foremost the knife must be a practical tool, unless I have taken a commission for a ceremonial blade. Those knives for the most part don't have a practical...

    Priceless!

Only if you make your own damascus and or find steel for little money. At this point I am just a little above breaking even.

old 1095(start of my kith knife)

Oh, almost forgot. I still do forging on an old Harbor Freight 65 pound anvil. Soft, but gets the job done. I DO recommend finding a 150 to 200 pounder conventional anvil asap. It will save your hands, elbows and shoulders and allow you to work more effeciently. Uncle Al in McQueen AR is a...

old 1095(start of my kith knife)

I like it. In appearance it is a modified butcher knife and that design is timeless. Good for just about anything....butchering, scalping, slicing beef or scarin' the hell outa chickens!

    Gaelic Forge Knives and Claxe

Thanks for the kind words. Everyone keep in mind that I don' make art knives. I respect that sort of work a great deal and it definitely has its place in the knife world, but it is not something I do at this point. Almost all my customers want something very practical and rugged which will...

    Damascus Masonic Dagger

Great execution my brother. This is definitely a worthy and well qualified blade. Have any suggestions on a text for file work? I am drawn to the decorative file work as well. Versailles Lodge #320

    Gaelic Forge Knives and Claxe

Looks like I stuck some pics of knives in the wrong place...apologies to admin folks. The knife with sheath is example of sheath work...knife not mine and apppeared to be made of file with Whitetail antler handle with a simple brass guard silver soldered in place. Pic of three drop edge...

    knife from military build

I'll second that on the tutorial! Hell, I don't like Kydex for the most part, but this looks great! Nice job on the blade.

    Pine cone belt knife

I wonder if he will make these in other color contrasts? This particular version is very nice. Just a side question for anyone who might know: are there any electrolytic problems with placing copper and steel together on knives? Future corrosion/oxidation probs?

    The Dark Maiden

While this deep etch is interesting it will also accumulate all manner of debris. Just wondering what wrought iron would look like with either a buff or a very light etch. Thinking of a way to achieve a practical striated effect without attacking the inherent porosity of this metal.

    Rustic, (I hope)

Like the copper overlay a great deal and your choice of pin type. Can you tell me where you had the maker's mark fabricated?? Big hat tip on this knife. Damn well done!

    The Dark Maiden

And the wrought iron will not corrode as quickly as carbon steel. That was why so many bridges were made of this stuff in addition to metal girders in older buildings. As you cans see from the pic it has a fibrous texture. Not sure I would want to etch this stuff. Does anyone know what it...

I like the blade design and execution, although I am not a fan of redwood burl. Perhaps ebony as a contrast to the damascus? IMHO your work is very well done.
