    N-T?

When I returned to knife making after many years I decided that making art knives would not be my style. That type of work has its place and I admire the early work Tai has done here immensely. For me, it was about making useful tools that would last. Practicality is king. Form following...

    N-T?

IMHO it is really simple. NT means adaptive reuse with a purpose.....and skill.

    New Bush Knife Gallery

Very nice handle wraps Tai. Great work. May I ask what your steel source is?

    Primal/Tactical EDC

Can't beat OCS for a good blade! The handle is exceptional and I especially like the turks head knot at the top. A wee bit partial to leather, but I can see the need for a MOLLE rig here as well. Great work! I use a mix of diesel and oil myself. Have never used Canola.

    Nt kith?

Since virtually all my blades are fabricated from sawblades or pounded out from springs this KITH thing works for me. Make it after the end of April and I am in. Have some customers waiting and am still building a new grinder right now.

    Forged Harley connecting rod blade

How does that forge compared to 5160 OCS...(Old chevy spring)? Good adaptive reuse of damn good steel and your execution looks good. Can you discuss your hardening/tempering fluid?

    Gaelic Forge stuff

The knife bug bit me many years ago, but I did not come down with a full infection until I was working as an archaeologist and had the opportunity to study a great many stone tools. Stone knife designs influence my work considerably and I make a point of studying historic steel blades as well...

    Gaelic Forge stuff

Thanks for the compliments, but the grind lines are hampered by being on the learning curve and using a Grizzly grinder. Working to build the NWG at this time and believe it will help my work. Have several new blades in the works including smaller butcher knife (think Nessmuk), neck knives and...

    Gaelic Forge stuff

Here is pic of belt buckle. It began its life as 1/2 round stock which I squared and tapered, then twisted into shape free hand. With only one to do it made no sense to make a scrolling jig particular to this design. Having said that......I won't do anything like this without making a...

    Gaelic Forge stuff

The third blade down from the top is what I call a "claxe." It is something I dreamed up in response to hunters wanting a blade to cut ribcages and pelvic joints on elk and deer. It also will slice up some kindling wood as well. Very thick profile grind as this is not used to slice tomatoes...

    Gaelic Forge stuff

Someone over on the Intro page wanted to see some pics of knives I have made. Now, keep in mind that I make practical knives, not art knives. Mine are made to be used and abused by the local men and women in butchering hogs, cattle, deer, etc as well as used on an occasional Elk hunting trip...

    New Pup from Missouri

I'll put up a better pic on Facebook of the buckle. It was a commision for an SCA lady for a sword belt. JDW....check your email. Yup, we are very close. I am on the other side of Haw Creek.

    Hey! from De Queen, Ar.

Purchased my anvil from Uncle Al. Good people there and way more talented that this old hound!

    New Pup from Missouri

O.K., I'm a tad too old for a pup. Probably "old hound" would be more appropriate! Anyway, just signed up this afternoon and looking forward to giving and receiving here on the forum. If you have a chance drop by and have a look at the new site still in construction phase. I can also be...

    Old Western Restore Project

I am probably too late for a comment, but put some Obenaufs Leather Preservative on the leather after cleaning. I first started using this stuff on my Whites firefighting boots while stationed in Boise, ID several years ago. I understand about keeping the knife as is, but these stacked leather...

    Firesteel

I'll second that! Nice looking forge work. Don't think I have ever seen such an elegant striker before. Leather work looks good too!

    Persimmon anyone?

Thanks Mike. Here in central MO it grows in groves and some of the trees are over 50 feet in height with a basal diameter of over 14 inches. When grown in a hardwood stand with overstory it grows very straight with few side branches. What do you recommend for seasoning? I have done air dried...

Where to get leather and a few other questions

Did not see my favorite leather supplier. If you are in Missouri or north Arkansas go have a look at Springfield Leather Company. I travel down there when I need a shoulder for knife sheaths, since I can pick what I need first hand. Good folks to deal with. They also handle Tandy stuff, but...
