Murph, try not using zoom unless you have to. From what I have noticed it degrades the pictures significantly. Instead try to get as close as you can to the object and then cropping. Should have the same effect without the degradation to the picture. Here is a screen capture of the photo apps...

Cliff, depending on the phone you should be able to plug it into your computer and pull the pictures off to do with as you please.
