    Handle Material? :)

Most of them are sold as dog chew toys. Some become chandeliers and furniture. Just the white and chalk horns from three trips netted me 383$. I kept the brown ones for now. Decent sized brown ones sell for 60-100 per side. If you find a real big one the. It becomes desirable for taxedermy...

Some times it's fun to make more than just knives...

well thought out. I would think that the tip would get pokey in the pocket. Any trouble with that?

    Handle Material? :)

Most of the shed hunters around here focus on the Mule deer. But they are smaller and harder to spot and I despise seeing other people when I'm out hunting, I head for the far away canyons. Plus Mule brown deer horns go for about 10$lb and elk 9$ so an elk shed is much more valuable. A elk...

    Handle Material? :)

I look forward to shed season all year, On Wednesday I went shed hunting and found 5 sheds including the first brown shed for the season. It was a big 7 point bull. I ran back out today to see if I could find the other side. My previous record for elk sheds was 7 in one day. Not that...

    My Damascus Fighter

Thanks Lagrange, I appreciate the input. A little too aggressive is what I was going for, it is built from tip to butt to be a fighter, and I researched quite a bit on this one. I'll take that comment as a compliment. :) And thanks LiamLynch, there are far too few people willing to take the...

how to deal with spine(profile) waving or gouges

If you are talking about the scratches in the top of the riccasso I have found that they are usually caused by not being flat on the platen. Make sure the last few passes are flat. I always start hand sanding at 150 grit.

    My Damascus Fighter

here is what I have found is the best method for etching a large blade. Vinegar in a cheap pan (didn't borrow the wife's pan ;) ) in oven at 215 degrees. Flip in 5 minutes then at 10 minutes remove oxides with steel wool. 2 or 3 10 minutes etches is plenty. Vinegar is easier and cheaper...

    Good to know Doug, Thanks.

    Which steel?

Not to put too fine a point on it, because this does answer the question of why you are better off buying a eutectic steel like 1080,1084, Some of the information is incorrect. I will respectfully make these points, This is how I understand it, so someone can correct me if I am wrong. 1, you...

    My Damascus Fighter

Not wanting to get too far ahead on the KITH, I decided to make a similar knife, only out of Damascus. I bought a 3x15" piece of Alabama Buckshot Damascus. I decided to do the guard and Blade from the same material. There was enough to do this Blade, the guard and one more knife...

S30V, 304SS and Mammoth Ivory Fighter WIP

Looking good, I will be curious as to how you cut in the grind on the point. Will the ricasso area be trimmed back? It appears a bit wide by the guard.

Ever See a Handle that Needed a Knife?

Bowman, I'm self employed (read, poor lol) and work is only blocks from my house. I have to be here often, but I also get to be away alot as well, depending on who is working :) I was lucky when I started, I had a friend who had a old burr king 2X72 grinder in storage and about 5 years ago he...
