    Tabletop Hydraulic Press

Here's the press plumbed with 1/2" lines. Next up I'll 1) add supply and return lines to the tank, and 2) mount the motor & pump assembly.

    Tabletop Hydraulic Press

Here's the mounted hydraulic pump. Since the pump is a hotspot for noise I wanted it vibration free. This is a foot mount bracket I fabbed from 1" thick plate. Cost me $8 to make and is substantially more rigid that the $60 store bought versions.

    Tabletop Hydraulic Press

I'm a hydraulics rookie also Pierre so I did two years of research and parts collecting before I started this press. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. I'd be glad to share any info.

    Tabletop Hydraulic Press

Hi Pierre. Yes, I'm using a 6 gpm vane pump off a 7.5 hp electric motor at 3600 rpm.

    Tabletop Hydraulic Press

Bill, all good points. I left about 1/8" between the crosstube and the top cross member. I wanted enough space to be able to install the cylinder easily but still be close enough that the frame would halt any substantial flex in the round bar. It would certainly be easy enough to reinforce...

Will do Steve. I'm collecting the fittings & hoses and should be up fairly soon.

    Tabletop Hydraulic Press

Don, I know what you mean about "proof of concept" and that was my goal in trying a smaller framed press. Like you I'm eager to see how the frame performs. I tried to address some of the stress issues by using the cross tube mounted cylinder - putting the stress at the base of the cylinder onto...

Benchtop Hydraulic Press Here's a benchtop size hydraulic press I've been building. Like most of us I'm pretty low on floor space so I wanted as small a footprint as possible in order to mount it on a small work table. The press is 44" tall and 13" wide. The cylinder has a 4" bore & 2.25" ram...

    Jesse James

Jesse is not the only bike builder to show an interest in making knives or Damascus steel. Here are some pics of a couple of Bowies made by JT Nesbitt, former designer for Confederate Motorcycles and builder of some very cool automobiles. He's a multi-talented guy too...

Started a new Forging Press Projekt

Nice work. I'm making a similar style tabletop size press.

Always good stuff to see here on Bruce's little corner of the net. I like that the billet is bent to flow with the handle. Is a slower, deeper etch an option on a firearm? The added texture would be cool.

    Big Bowie

Thanks Bruce. The customer is also a fan of Rod Chappel & Bill Luckett knives so I tried to add a touch of their styles to the guard.

Slow Speed/High Torque Drill Press Mods for Drilling Large Holes

I'm in the process of building a hydraulic press and needed to drill some 1.250" holes in very thick stock. Neither of my two benchtop drills were up to the task. They were too fast & didn't have nearly enough torque. After reading several threads at some of the machinists forums I came up with...

    Big Bowie

Here's one just finished. The customer wanted a BIG Bowie for display based on his favorite design by Gil Hibben. Blade is 13.25" x .5" thick and OAL is 20.25". Steel is 440c. Comments are welcome. based on this inspiration piece by Mr Hibben
