    Ancient Fish Hooks

Cool... but that little black one looks like one of those black onyx type of heads. Really dig that look.

    My Antique Grinder

I was going to say the same thing I remember reading about it, they weren't designed to run at the RPM's a motor would spin them at. Wonder if it would be worthwhile to hook like a foot pedal up like the old spinning wheels for yarn and using it to sharpen??

Your Favorite Wood and Metal Polish

Not 100 percent sure but to me that looks more like a blasted finish. A lot of times lighting can play tricks with how shiny a blade looks. Here are 2 pics of my first knife. One looks almost mirror (at least to me) while in another shot and angle it looks more satin. That was shot in a bit...

Your Favorite Wood and Metal Polish

Clamp the blade to something flat. I use a 1x2 clamped to my bench and hold the tang in place with spring clips. Use something flat to wrap a piece of sandpaper around. I switch between a piece of small square steel stock and block of wood for handle material depending on which way I'm sanding...

    Ancient Fish Hooks

They look really cool Steve. I made some hearts for my nieces a while back from acrylic handle material. I'm REALLY digging that arrowhead though 2thumbs. I keep telling myself I'll make one for myself one day but not sure if it'll come out that good. I actually considered getting into knapping...

Your Favorite Wood and Metal Polish

From the looks of it you're not getting out previous scratches from lower grits before you move to the next. You have to get rid of EVERY scratch from a previous grit before moving on. When at the lower grits it's very helpful to sand in 2 different directions with each grits. Meaning, sand...

    knife etching

Bob I built your etcher and after re-checking the website now I just realized your name is right in the first paragraph. I never even noticed I just went right to the parts list and followed from there. Even though I had essentially no idea on how to wire it (thanks again Rusty if you're...

    Second knife (kind of) complete

This is the second knife I've completed but it's about the 6th or 7th in terms of the order it was made. I have a few others from heat treating waiting that were done before this, plus a couple still on the shelf for HT and a couple still waiting to be finished forging. This was ment to be a...

Custom Knife Maker Wanted for Regular Work

Very interesting design, however I'm no where near the level to produce on that size yet. Good luck with finding someone though.

Can we have a drumroll please-Mr Bad Example is a winner.

Congrats Michael. You're gonna love it, I've also just found out it's a neat little thing to have even when sharpening. I ground my edge with it, then used the bubble to keep the angle consistent on one of my sharpening stones. Keeps the blade angle perfect as you're making your passes.

    My Fourth Knife

Nice looking knife you have there. The easiest way to get a nice plunge line is to file it in with a small chainsaw file. After you mark your center line, mark the blade where you want the plunge line, file it straight (use a guide if you have to). Down to where you want the thickness of your...

    Harbor Freight 1x30" Modification

I was thinking about getting one almost exclusively for profiling blades. I mostly draw file mine now. I have a Sears 2x42 but I hardly ever put the table on it. I was thinking the HF one would be good for profiling and maybe some handle work. Any opinions?

    Sear 2”x42” belt sander

If you go to the grocery store and buy a spray bottle of static guard and just hit the inside of the belt with it before you grind you'll eliminate a lot of that. Also I've found that using Fred's bubble jig you can get a really cool arc from the clamp to the metal part of the platen as you're...

Serrated, plain edge or both? - Survey

A lot of the older folders I used to buy I always went for a partial edge. However after reading something about them I realized that a partial serrated edge is almost like having not enough of either. I would often use the serrated edge for cutting things like banding, or those annoying ties...
