Before you made your own knives..........

Buck Pathfinder was the first knife I took into the woods hunting. A few years later I got a buck vanguard and carried that for over 15 years.

Do pouch sheaths ever losen up at all?

That is helpful but it seems to me that leathers natural tendency is to soften up and loosen quite a bit after a fair amount of use. To me I'm thinking like a new baseball glove compared to a nice broken in one. One you can barely move and the other you can flap around like it's nothing. I would...

    blade trashing

Considering I've just trashed 2 perfectly good pieces of stainless in the last 2 days there just might be. Should be finishing up profiling the 3rd tonight or tomorrow. I'm almost considering now just profiling the blade area. This way if I have to scrap it I didn't waste all the extra time...

Do pouch sheaths ever losen up at all?

I have all the material I think I need to attempt a sheath. But I'm a little unsure about whether I want to do a pouch sheath or attempt something that has a strap that goes over the guard and snaps in place. To me leather it seems will always, over time stretch and loosen to a degree. So I was...

    What's your first name?

Matt pretty common too I guess. Either that or Fletch will work online. I've gotten fairly used to that name.

well, just one of them days....

That stinks I've recently scrapped 2 knives myself and am moving on to hope the 3rd time is a charm. Kinfe making is like anything else in life I guess. Some days you're the hammer and other days you're the anvil.

    My first K-bit

Wicked looking design Chris, love the handle material too. The only thing I would say to strive for a bit more next time is more of a "claw" design with the blade. Karambit blades tend to "hook" or curve more and come to a fine point. One of the reasons a lot of people tend to find them not...

    I may be a wierdo.

I've never really been into collecting or hoarding fixed blades. But I've always been in search of the "magical" EDC folder . But the knives I do get I buy with the intention of them actually being used. I really have no interest of buying a knife and never taking it out of the...

My reluctance on a sharpening tutorial.

I agree that getting an edge requires a bit of patience. However you're making a lot of references to sharpening and polishing swords in quite a few of your posts. Few of the members her are dedicated sword makers, many however are knife makers. We're just interested in putting a scary sharp...

My Knives Scales are Falling Off...

Good point... Maybe it was Iso that I used and acetone to clean off the excess glue huh1

My Knives Scales are Falling Off...

FWIW I've only done one complete knife but from what I've been told Acetone is a good choice. And was what I used.

My Knives Scales are Falling Off...

I'm curious about this...What do you do with the super glue after the handles are done? Just seal off where the scales meet the tang? If so by the time you sand it all down is there any glue still left there? Thanks.

My Knives Scales are Falling Off...

Also hollowing out the center of tang a bit has been recommended to me by a few people to help adhesion. Corbys are probably one of the best things to use though. They'll hold the scales on without glue, the glue can basically act more as a sealant when you use them.

    Drawing a fine line [ BASHING ]

So if I (or anyone else for that matter) post a knife looking for constructive criticism it can't be done on the forum? I've only posted one knife so far but have 3 I'm in the process of getting ready to go off to HT. But my whole purpose of posting my work on here is that I want people to...
