    Paul Long Sheaths

Glad I checked in before this went off the page. Paul shore sets the standard for all other leathermen to aspire to. I have always been a fan of the crisp detail and finish of his work, and I love those rolled edges at the lip of the sheath. Those are all beautifull examples of Pauls work.

So I got me a splitter

Great job on restoring a great old splitter Chef. Be thinking who your gonna will it to, it will outlast you by a bunch. The questions of why you would split leather is easy to answer. Rather than order several weights of leather you can order just a few. Then split it to the perfect...

Sharpening round knife with a belt sander

I've done it Chef. Do so very carefully as there is a safety concern. The belt should rotate so it can't catch the edge. You can ruin a good round knife in a hurry, not to mention fingers. I've only done it with knives that have been mis-sharpened and need that very thin edge brought back...

So I got me a splitter

Sorry Chef, not getting much computer time right now. Heres the two jaw types I use most. You can drive tacks with these also but I rarely use them that way. Be sure to leave extra leather to grab with the pliers as you will have to trim the jaw marks off.

So I got me a splitter

Great job on the restoration Chef. I use one like it daily. Now watch for a pair of snob pliers, they make it easyer to pull the leather thru. ( they use them in the shoe trade) Keep your blade sharp and never split past half the leather thickness in a single pass. (it will cut your leather...

    Some frontiersman style gun leather.........

The whole outfit looks great, well except the polished boots :^) I have a horse manure collection here, I'd be glad to part with any or all of it for those boots. Serious, I love to see the period work you do.

    My first sewing machine

Congrats Chef I'd qwiz the guys in the shop when you pick it up. How thick will it handle, thread the machine like's, any little quirks it has. The tips you get from them will save you tons of time figureing out little problems later.

A plethora of Frontierknives & sheaths......

If a guy can't find a couple favorites in that bunch he's got a short in his wiring. I really like all of them but that braiding and qwill work just does it for me. Can't wait for the next ones, but I'll just have to revisit these while your building more. RS

Really nice, I like the color contrast and your right, that is nice snakehide.

    Color Problems

You might try a neatsfoot oil with darkener in it. Go easy with the oil unless your leather has good body to it ( butt cuts and along the back are the firmest, in that order) Try pure sheps neatsfoot oil alone on a scrap to start with, then add darkener to get it where you want.

    Casull 454 rig

Really nice outfit Dave. I normally don't care for studs on a holster but those just fit. Great job on the lacing also, the whole outfit flows well together.

    plane janes

Sure nothing wrong with plain. Pretty much all my personal sheaths are plain, I like the way they look with use.

    A sheath I just finished

Good idea Art. Keeping a blade secure in the sheath can sure be a headache sometimes.
