Taking the dive into knife making

Thank you! Definitely more addicted than I thought. It's pretty much impossible to just try and make one knife at a time. I'm constantly thinking and drawing up new ones. No denying here, I'm hooked!

    Those that own a KMG

The KMG is soso in my opinion. I kind of wish I saved a little more and went for the TW90. But with that said- it's maybe 5% about the grinder and 95% maker. There's a ton of people out there making knives with just hand files, hacksaw, and drill press. They do an amazing job. If Chris does...

Taking the dive into knife making

Got home in time to drill the holes out before sun down on the SPM1. Also drew up more blades. Been on a bigger blade run lately. Thinking of calling the Dagger the "Artemis". I made two versions with different sized handles.

Taking the dive into knife making

Got a little time on the grinder today- feeling much better. Did two SPM1 blanks with a slightly longer handle as well as taller. Also ground two of each tin knife design in .110 O-1, the SPM1 are going to be 3/16 80CRV-2 Also been learning the motions on trying to square my blanks better...

    Compact Chefs knife

Nice, I like that design a lot. Thicker steel and I'd have fun with it in the woods.

    Steel suggestion

I've got a friend that forged a few knives recently from 80CRV2. I was so impressed I bought some, even though mines will be stock removal. What's his idea of a survival knife? Something crazy with a saw on the spine, or more bushcrafty that could be similar to a Blind Horse Bushcrafter?

Taking the dive into knife making

Thank you. I haven't been feeling well for the last two weeks. Definitely falling behind on my imaginary schedule to finish more blades. Still have to use the Drewcarta I got from the give away.

Taking the dive into knife making

Well, I can honestly say this has been one of the worst years for me, in terms of illness. I've never gotten sick this many times in just one year. Not being able to grind and work on knives is a bit annoying, but I can still draw them. Here are the templates plus a monster one. Think I'll name...

    Steel suggestion

Can't go wrong with 1095 or O1 in my opinion. Most of my knives I've purchased are these steels. Had some in S30V and S35, but wasn't super impressed. Good ol' 1095 has never let me down in field. Then again I myself haven't made any yet in that steel. Got to get the blanks heat treated.
