    Shop Rolls

I have some left over rolls of various grits from doing body work and paint on an old car I'm restoring. I plan on using those in the shop but I think their use will be limited and if it wasn't for being leftovers, expensive. The nice thing about them is they are 2" wide and adhesive backed...

    Alec Steel Youtube channel

Thats one of the reasons I really dont have any desire for a YT channel. Well that and being ugly!! But I do subscribe to some of those smaller channel guys that I like to hopefully help get them a few bucks in their pockets for their efforts.

    Quench tank

Did it tip over because the base being narrow? Just curious as I have an ammo can I was going to start using. If the base is too narrow do you think welding up some angle iron into a frame the can sits in would solve the problem? I suppose you could even extend some "legs" out a bit also.

    Cold, Cold

It's actually unseasonably warm (and dry) here in Colorado. Warm enough that I ordered concrete for my new shop pad for Thursday. High 40's Wednesday and Thursday, 50's Friday and Saturday, and 40's again all next week.

Completed my third and fourth knives.

Those look nice. You mentioned SS bolster and 416 pin stock. Is the bolster 416 also? Using the same bolster material as pin stock is a must. I also have never put glue in my bolster holes. I built a small but heavy duty press that I use for bolster pins. After I press them I also beat those...

    unknown steel heat treat

Thanks for the input gentlemen. I have found that people just don't understand this when they hand you metals they have no idea what it is, and want you to make a knife out of it. Well intentioned but misinformed. At the same time I just hate turning these into scrap metal.

    unknown steel heat treat

I was kind of afraid of that Ed. Can you even get these tested? I thought I had heard the places that do that kind of testing wanted like a 1" cube of the material to test. Any idea of what the cost would be for something like that?
