Cut my finger, having surgery to repair damage tomorrow. requesting prayers

Surgery went well, no complications yet. I can't work for 12 weeks minimum, so the doc said I may be eligible for disability to help with not working for so long. I have a follow up appt. on Friday so i'll learn more then. I'm thinking about buying a zipper pouch for it because the sheath will...

Cut my finger, having surgery to repair damage tomorrow. requesting prayers

Thank you for the kind words and thoughts. Eric I realized through this experience I am pretty allergic to pain myself. I'll have to try a little harder to keep my hands in one piece next time. The knife turned out beautiful, but i does look nicer when it isn't in my finger. lol I'll be sure to...

Cut my finger, having surgery to repair damage tomorrow. requesting prayers

I just finished a knife I need to have for fathers day, but when I was showing it off my hand slipped and slid up the blade and it cut deep into the top joint of my index finger. It severed the tendon and cut the nerves. I have no feeling in the tip n my finger, and cannot bend it. I have an...

    Help with handle scales,

Yeah, that it what I was expecting but I couldn't just toss it without double checking. . I figure I might make a knife to fit the scales for myself at some point. That way I have something nice to show and If/when it fails It won't reflect on my work and I'll just replace it. That is very kind...

    Best way to practice,practice, practice

What I did to start off was I started my first knife with a file to get my bevels, this way I had more control. Once the bevels were there I used them to help guide me and I changed the angle gradually until I got to where I wanted to be. Also I got the Bubble jig from Fred Rowe which helped...

    Help with handle scales,

I was shaping the scales for a knife I have to have done by fathers day and in an effort to save time I used a saw instead of just the cutter in a drill press I have been using, bad idea. I broke the scale about 1/4" in front of the front pin. I used super glue and the dust from the block to...

Sharpening Methods and their Effects on Heat Treatments

I have heard people make these claims before and think it is paranoia of overheating the edge. I do my initial sharpening on a belt sander dry and have never had a problem. Although I have noticed I get a cleaner cutting edge when I use oil or another kind of lubricant, though this is not...

Shop Tip of the Day - Add yours here

I recently bought some water soluble cutting oil to try in my dunk bucket, and it works great just dunk and grind. Grinds faster and cooler on ceramic belts, and just pour some in a spray bottle for drilling. Cost me $12 for a quart that will make 2 gallons. well worth it.

Dislocated shoulder and a snowmobile ride.

don't over do things too soon, although months of therapy seem a bit much. Keep in mind that after your shoulder has been dislocated once, I will do it again easier. I have to agree with how people act with injuries nowadays, guess America and Scotland are not so different in some ways.

Just finished this project at school

Its been busy lately, between school, sports, and work I have had 2 days off since mid-January. I enjoyed doing this, I got the idea for doing it this way because of the Wilcox trux company logo from the 1920's.

Just finished this project at school

I designed my makers mark in my computer integrated manufacturing class and had a sign cut on a CNC that will fit what I designed. Then we cut the mark on a laser printer which burned into the wood as a negative of the mark. I think it came out very nice

Cheapest knife handle material to use for experience?

I bought some Corion from Ebay when I started. got plenty of it for around $20. you can also ask around some places that work with it and might be able to get scraps cheaper. easy to work, takes a nice polish and looks good when finished.
