    edge thickness issues

I am having trouble grinding the edge on my knife evenly, some parts of the edge are thicker than others. I measured on the three problem points and the thicknesses are from plunge line toward the tip: .0575", .0120", and .0320" is around the usual thickness. The thin area formed when I tried to...

What makes a hunter or a hunting knife?

I usually picture a good hunting knife as something with a 4-5 inch blade and a standard drop point or clip point shape with a gentle curve for a belly. this seems to me like the most versatile shape for a knife. Here are two rough designs that come to mind when I think of a hunter.

I am thankful for this forum and everyone here, were in not for this place and those who make it the place it is I would never have started making knives and learned most of what I have in the last few months. -Cameron

    CPM D2 or W2?

my plan is so sell some of them, some will be gifts, or just keepers (those with too many mistakes to sell) I figured they weren't the best to compare but I just didn't know which to buy in General. thanks to you guys I think I'm going to go with 6' of W2 and 8' of 1084 cut into 9" sections...

    Question about grinding...

Based on you post it sounds like your using a belt sander, if so I'm not positive but it sounds like you may be running the tip off the belt and it is taking it off. Try picking the knife up off the belt when the tip is half-way through the belt if you are using something else like a disk...

    CPM D2 or W2?

I am going to be buying steel soon and am curious as to which steels I should buy, I am currently deciding between .103"/.140" (haven't decided yet) W2, or .103"/.140" CPM D2. Just wondering what your preferences are and the reasons behind why you like them. P.S. they are intended to be...

    Dumbfounded

well, seeing as I am newer to this than you I might not have the best advice, I have seen your work and it looks great just keep at and ignore those who act that way. I am surprised that someone acted that way because everyone I have talked to so far has been very helpful. Anyway don't let the...

    Drawing a Bowie blade?

I am relatively new to this also but my best advice is just draw what you do a good job on some paper small enough to make a copy or two and practice the tricky parts on the copy then repeat the sketch you liked onto your original paper. This is what I have learned takes a lot of the redrawing...

    G10 and Micarta differences

I can't speak much for differences in use because I too am very new to this but the differences between G-10 and micarta as I understand it are G-10 is fiberglass layers epoxied together, and micarta is either Paper, linen, denim, canvas and burlap among other things as Brad said. -Cameron

I wonder why you would recognize the Corion Steve. Again thanks for sending it all to me. I did some rounding on the scales but they are still a little blocky but comfortable in my hand although a little small for my hand.
