    Kiln Conversion

Aaron, the reason I wanted to remove some coils was to make the chamber smaller and less of a toll on the electricity bill. I also wanted to convert it to a horizontal chamber rather than vertical. Thanks for the advice though! I'll definitely keep that in mind. Less work on this thing means...

    Kiln Conversion

Kiln Conversion Question. While I was poking around in the shop today, I came across an old small pottery kiln that someone had given our family. I've been wanting to get a heat treat oven for accurate temps and soak time but just can't afford it. Looking at that kiln, I suddenly realized I HAD...

Cancer Research Damascus Fighter WIP on CKCA

I've never chimed in to let you know so I guess now is the time to do it. I LOVE your WIP threads Mr. Bump! It's so much fun to watch the knives grow! Plus, I know I'll always learn something from reading them. :D

Hey Eli! Haven't seen you posting anything up lately and was wondering if you'd been working on anything. Or is it still too hot down there to think about forging yet? :D

    Cocobowie

This is a bowie knife I recently finished up. The blade is forged from an old Ford leaf spring and the handle is Cocobolo. Fittings are wrought iron. OAL is 11 1/2" and the blade is 6 1/2" of that. Tell me what you think. All comments/critique are well appreciated!

Anyone know about old pianos and if the keys are ivory?

I'm not an "expert" on old pianos but I am an experienced player and have seen and played on enough to know that the piano in question most likely doesn't have ivory keys. Ivory is generally only seen on higher end grands, ones that run at least $60,000+ on the low end. The only exception is...

    spring steel

Are you wanting to do a full tang or a through tang? If it were me, I'd start with 4-5" of material, straighten that much with a torch, unless you can get it in your forge, and then go from there. When I work with round stock, I find it easier if I forge it flat before trying to forge the...

    WIP - Trash or Treasure?

I got 5.476g per cubic in. for the normal redwood burl, 8.556 for the Maple burl and 10.267 for the other redwood burl. Hope that helps you. By the way, the formula for density is weight/volume. In this case grams/cubic inches.

    best place for tongs?

I bought two pairs of tongs from Glen at GSTongs and they are great! They hold well and comfortable in the hand. He's a great guy to do business with and I don't think you'd go wrong at all getting some tongs from him.

    Buck Sirus problem

I had a similar problem with my Benchmade Stryker when I got it. I figured out that the pivot had been loose and, from constantly playing with it, I had forced the pivot to tighten on the blade it it was pinched so hard the blade felt like it had not assist. I don't know if that's the problem...

    Kinda new

Hey all. I'm not really new on here but I've been very isolated in my activity so I figured I'd go ahead and introduce myself to the rest of the pack. I'm 16 and I love making knives so I figure this is a good place to be. Thanks for a cool sight Bossdog!

    Band Aids

Definitely superglue! It doesn't hurt when you bump it on accident like so many cuts do when all you have on is band aid.

For those of us who call it Christmas!!

I haven't looked around that much for any specific articles but after going on the ACLU website, typing in "Christmas" in the search box and looking at a few of the articles, it's quite obvious that they don't want the government and Christmas to be connected in any way. If you click around on...
