Thanks to all for the replies. I guess "across the pond" was kind of vague.My customer is in England. The shipping fees were discussed and the buyer took responsibility for them before the knife was even started. The signature conformation was his idea but I think the 76.00 surprised both of us...

I have a knife to ship across the pond but I was quoted $76.00 (U.S.) to ship USPS with tracking and signature conformation. Do any of you knife makers know of a cheaper safe reliable way to ship knives? Thanks and Happy New Year!

Thanks Fred. Hopefully Kevin C will be along to shed some light on it for you. Now for my completely uneducated ..guess. Could it have anything to do with the quench being to slow? I have seen some guys use compressed air to speed up the cooling of the quench plates. Best of luck with the next...

Thank you Darrin. Did you find that the hardness of your blades was a lot lower at lower temps? Does anyone know where I might be able to find recommended temps ? Is all this info on the companies web site?

Hey no worries Randy. I would say the life span is 1 quench,after that you can send it to me and I will use it.....I mean dispose of it properly. Kevin, So in layman's terms what could happen if the quenchant is too cold, around 50*F?

How critical is quenchant temperature? Is there any place I can find recommended quenchant temps for various steel and quenchant combinations ? Kevin,if I missed this info in your stickies I apologize. Thanks to all that share their knowledge and the time it takes to do so...

I have no answers for you but I am wondering what you use to HT, oven? forge?

You can also clamp the blade to a file and slightly over correct with shims. I believe it would be better to start the straightening process in the first temper cycle. please correct me if I am wrong though.

It seems that I get a few belts in every order that want to walk from side to side even buying high quality belts. I will try flipping them and see if it helps. Thanks Tracy.
