Need help with hidden tang size.

I think photos 3 and 5 from the top down may be my best bet. It won't be all antler, but then I can just use some other wood and spacer material in there. Sent from my XT1565 using Tapatalk

Need help with hidden tang size.

Thanks for all the responses. Huge help in here! I got my blade roughed in. I'm just going through the antlers I have trying to find the best one. Maybe I should thin my tang a little more? It goes from about a half inch down to just a hair over a quarter inch from top to bottom...

Need help with hidden tang size.

So, I'm making my father a stag handle knife for fathers day. I had some very special Damascus steel made for this. More on that later. My issue is this. The steel is almost 1.5 inches wide, 1/8 thick. The antler price I'd like to use looks massive in comparison. So before i go...

What's going on in your shop?

Thanks Wall E. The client and I weren't sure if it would be overkill, bit we both thought it looked pretty cool in the end. Can't have too much red white and blue right? Sent from my XT1565 using Tapatalk

    Need liner lock help

It is to take some pressure off of the spring/lock bar. It makes it easier to open and close. Now, it did not need to be as big as I made it. But this is my first locking liner, so that's my excuse. I could have gotten away with making the space/relief half as long. Sent from my XT1565...

    First slip joint

That's awesome! I really like that blade. So, not bad enough to keep you from making more? Did you use screws? Looks like it. As opposed to peening pins I mean. Nice work.[emoji106] Sent from my XT1565 using Tapatalk

What's going on in your shop?

Finally finished my USAknifemaker liner lock template knife. And thanks to Frank Niro, my next liner lock will be 100 times better. Awesome advice from that veteran. I like the knife I made, but there are some very obvious flaws that I will know how to avoid next time. Mainly, I took off...

    Friction Folder Lock Stop

I've made quite a few friction folders and never had or heard of any of mine opening in your pocket. If it's your first one, I say keep it simple. Look on YouTube for Sugar Creek Forge and see his build along. He even posts a template to use to help you make a friction folder. Very good...

    Need liner lock help

Thank you. I agree, the whole thing does look like a turd at the moment. I just wanted it mechanically working properly before I did anything to the looks. Looks like I'll be trying out some different angles soon. Thanks again for responding. Sent from my XT1565 using Tapatalk

    Need liner lock help

Frank! Man, thanks for taking the time to write all of that. I didn't get my information from a boom, I've been following the "how to" posted by Boss for his liner lock templates. I'm printing your info out so I can have it right on my bench when I do my next folder. Seriously, thank...

    Need liner lock help

Duh! Thanks for the suggestion. That's the way to go. Put your angle finder on the platen, tilt it, and you're good to go. Thanks for reminding me my tools can already do what I need. I've just been so narrow in what I've been making. Never occurred to me to do that. Thanks! Sent...

    Need liner lock help

Thanks for the help. I did fix the angle of the lock up surface on the blade. It needs a tad more tweaking but I am waiting till after heat treat to do that. I'll be honest, I did the blade lock surface by eyeballing it. Never again. My kmg doesn't have an adjustable work plate. So...
