    accepting credit cards

This is all due to Feds and their Operation Choke Point and it has been going on for some time http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/may/18/targeted-gun-sellers-say-high-risk-label-from-feds/?page=all Up until recently I used PAI - Payment Alliance International as my CC processor - they...

    Hell on Wheels tv show

Check out these screen shots - appears to be a pretty basic 7-8" Bowie blade (maybe one of the Solingen German blades?) with a deer antler stick tang handle and simple oval brass guard - in fact the blade and guard look like some of those sold by dealers such as Crazy Crow...

    Dye Antler

re: oil causing leaching, in this case I meant non-drying oils like mineral oil as you mentioned in your OP. Drying oils such as tung or Danish will work fine as does the T & T I mentioned above. Why not try using one of the new water based Eco dyes from Tandy if pulling a vacuum? While I have...

    Dye Antler

I dye a lot of antler using leather dye and your process sounds good so far but (you just knew their would be one!) Anyway leather dye is a powdered pigment suspended in a spirit base such as alcohol, acetone, etc. When dry there is always a surface residue that needs to be buffed off - using a...

    Clamping leather

FWIW - if your use contact cement for gluing in the welt there is no reason to clamp it......IMO wet forming should occur after the the welt is glued in and the piece is finally shaped - wet forming is the next to last thing that should occur on i.e. a sheath, holster, or whatever - wet form...

    Bad News....Good News.....

Thank you all for your concern and prayers. I plan on sticking around for a while longer, my biggest concern is my wife - she just turned 68 and is not in the best of health either. One tough cookie though - she's been on her own since she was 14, but still I'd like to stick around for her sake...

    Bad News....Good News.....

Over the last 4 years I have made mention of my health issues and how they have affected me and my output. I started having severe gastric troubles and overwhelming fatigue to the point I had to drastically cut back on my work load which of course has affected my income and quality of life (we...

    Burnishing sheath

Yes - I use canvas or old jeans material or a piece of smooth antler. Although not done so much today, burnishing in the old days was the sign of a master craftsman.

    Gunstock War Club

VERY nicely done Randy. That style dag blade without the median ridge is known as the bayonet blade. And you're right there are no known gunstocks made into warclubs - wouldn't work anyway since the barrel channel and cutout for the lock would weaken it at the wrong place. IMO the name was...

    A Little Different...

Had to laugh - same with me - I kept checking out the river's edge (about 6 miles worth) :biggrin:for a proper piece and then one day my neighbors, whose property used to be a sawmill, cleaned up the grounds and piled some of the junk along the edge of the road for pickup and voila there it was...

    Cheyenne style Medicine bag

This is a special piece for a very special young lady who is my best friend's oldest daughter - I was asked (by her Mom) to make a "medicine" bag for her 20th birthday. The bag is meant for keeping an assortment of very personal keepsakes/heirlooms given to her by family and friends at the same...

    The Neo-Tribal Metalsmith Art Movement

IMO trying to define NT to the nth degree will be an exercise in frustration - think in terms of any other art movement - if one says "modern art" do you think of Picasso, Dali, Matisse, Escher, or Warhol perhaps - all modern artists, yet their work is also highly individualistic

    Stitcher help please?

The 1295 is basically an upholstery machine made for canvas, upholstery materials, leather, etc. thus the post, which allows large bulky items, such as boat tops to pass through the throat. Whether it will sew thicker leathers is a question that the manual should show and if you do a Google...

    False Neo-Tribal vs. True Neo-Tribal

With all due respect I am not a "exclusive", but IMO that is part of the problem - Neo-Tribal is not just a style (a "collector's" definition not a maker's definition, but for me NTSM, is rather more an "attitude"/methodology/intent" than just a style. One of the early "problems" with the...

    More of Randys BEAUTIFUL work

Bubba I'd have to agree with Randy about fixing those items due to possible loss of value - on the other hand you could get some one like Angela Swedberg to repair them than the value should stay or increase - Angela is an accredited repair person and is used by many museums as well as private...
