    My 1st MS Kitchen Knife

The scabbard is not lined. I wipe down the knife well before putting it back into the scabbard. I have been using the knife quite a bit over the past week. This profile seems to really like cutting meat. It does well with the veggies too.

    My 1st MS Kitchen Knife

This is my very first knife made by an ABS Master Smith. The knife was made for me by Aaron Wilburn who became a Master Smith this year. Here are some quick photos. The knife looks way better in person. Tonight I will be cutting everything I can get my hands on with this. The...

    Copper M3 and some HHH

I like it. And, like Dozier, I like copper. Looks great now but I really like copper as it ages and develops a patina. Nice steel too!

ID? Man made handle material, I don't know what this is.

My impression is that the piece was too large to be home made. Looks like layers of wood on rough edges but the cut surfaces look like maybe some fabric layers as well. Here is an angle photo.

ID? Man made handle material, I don't know what this is.

First of all, I am not a fan of man made handle materials. This piece of ??? came from the estate of Knife Maker Tedd Dowell. I don't know if this is something worth cutting up or if it is junk. I am leaning toward #2. But I figured I had better check before I toss it. It is hard and...

How To Cut & Process a Spalted Maple Burl

The way K&G does it is; Using a solvent based dye they go into a dye vat. I usually allow a couple sacrifical pieces so they can cut them in half to check penetration. Then they dry the dyed blocks. Last they stabilize the blocks. A couple of the other wood stabilizers mix the dye with the...

How To Cut & Process a Spalted Maple Burl

I may dye some of these. Depends what they look like when they are dry. The amber and brown areas tend to resist the dye giving an unusual look.

How To Cut & Process a Spalted Maple Burl

Eventually some of you will come across a burl and want to try your hand at turning it into handle material. This is a quick and easy way that I cut up a spalted Maple burl. The same process can work with most types of burl. The burl cap shown in the 1st photo was cut from an old dead log...

    My favorite color is blue

When it comes to dyed wood, my favorite color is blue. These two knives came from Claudio Sobral in Argentina. I got the small hunter a couple years ago, and the big fighter last month.
