    Mahogany for handles

I had some curly mahogany stabilized by K&G that turned out good. Here is a photo of the knife Nick Wheeler made with a piece. My suggestion is only invest stabilizing money in the good stuff. It cost the same to get a plain piece stabilized as it does for a fancy one.

Tiny forged hunter with spalted and curly box elder burl...

Dang John. Even your smaller, simpler knives look fancy. I keep looking at the new knives and get excited about when it's my turn. You keep making great knives and they keep getting better. Now we just need to see about getting you on the cover of Blade magazine.

    Cleaning the shop? How often?

When you have to climb over and on top of stuff to get to your tools is a good time to clean up. I am bad about a clean work area. But when I go to cut and sand I clear out my work area to keep things safe.

    Madrone wood

Madrone moves a lot while drying. Best to cut slightly oversized and set it aside to dry. Make sure it is under 10% moisture content before you use it. If you use it before it is dry it is likely to warp and/or crack. But when dry it has very small pores and finishes up nicely. If you get it...

Shigefusa inspired Custom San Mai 240mm

I guess I have been in a fog lately and did not notice this. Beautiful knife Randy. You did a great job on the wa style handle. I like the pattern in the crosscut ivory. and the koa looks like you brought it to it's full potential. Beautiful patterns with the san mai too.

Damascus Taurus 16 with Redwood burl.

Beautiful knife Erik. 1st time I saw the photo I thought it was the one you made for me years back. For anyone who hasn't handled one of Erik's knives..... it looks stout, but in hand it feels nimble and comfortable. I love the one you made for me. Thanks for posting the photos.

    Please help identify wood

English Walnut takes a really good finish using an oil blend. Tru-Oil or Danish Oil are ones I like. Light coats and let it dry between coats.

    Please help identify wood

1st one has Mexican Ebony written on it so it is probably Katalox. 2nd is definite English/Turkish Walnut. Can be difficult to stabilize yourself. Might turn dark/muddy.

    Hello all from Oregon

Even if you don't get a table it can be a lot of fun to go around and meet the locals. They tend to be a pretty friendly bunch. They even put up with me, and that is saying a lot. You have to make sure you meet Raymond Richard. He's getting really old so don't wait around. I think he's...

    Hello all from Oregon

Welcome Bryce. There are a bunch of good knife makers here in Oregon. If you haven't been there yet, I would suggest attending the Eugene show in April.

    two new Nessmuks

While this is not a style of knife that I am fond of, You made it look really good. They both look great. Nice work Lee. I have been impressed that you are making non-mainstream style knives and making them so that they are both unique and good looking. I'd bet that they cut really good too.
