Time for makers mark and etching the Damascus on the edges. The process of shaping and sanding the handle takes the detail out of the Damascus on the spine and underneath the handle. I’m not sure how others do this but I’ve settled on masking off the handle with electrical tape after putting on...

    MikeL and KITH WIP

I have no intentions of turning this WIP into an advertisement but a few have said they don’t like making sheaths. Over time as others saw my knives with his sheaths, he has now done work for other makers. He is not just a maker exclusively for me. I can give his info if anyone is interested...

Pretty darn nice. That olive wood handle is loaded with character.

My latest and most involved to date...

Beautiful knife, beautiful photography. I think the more detail found in a knife the more important the photography. This knife is packed with detail and I can see it all. Skillful!

Zito KITH WIP- 9-2-18 update pics

That’s a great looking knife. File work is difficult for me (that’s why I’ve only done it a couple times) ,yours looks very evenly spaced. Nice touch.

Well, I like them both but I would lean towards the first but would be happy with either.

A trio of craftsmanship. All of it looks like a good match for each other.

Thanks for the compliments! Left to do: Makers mark, etch spine and edge under handle, didn’t quite get all super glue off surface so more sanding, sharpen. Then make the second one so you all can vote which one to put in KITH. Enough for today.

Handle shaping has begun. I’m close to final shape so at this point I’m using CA glue to fill a few small voids. I learned from pen turning where I did many, many CA glue finishes, that I prefer letting the glue cure on it’s own rather than use accelerator. I also learned I am allergic to the CA...

The scraps are on the pen. The background desert ironwood is waiting for a handle. :)

I do a lot of reading while trying to learn but often can’t remember who suggested what. The double sided tape originated with some other smarter person. I can’t take credit. I only expanded its use to several other purposes because I liked it so much. This forum and you tube have been...

I shape the leading edge at an angle and then square up to get the edge that remains after the angled shaping. Yes, the double sided tape is keeping it very snug during the shaping. There are voids in this Burl but they are solid due to some very good stabilizing (not stabilized by me).

There are many techniques to get scales on blades. I use double sided tape a lot! I probably use paper towels and sandpaper much more but doubled sided tape is way up the list of highly used items. I use super strong tape and it has proven to be a very valuable tool for me. Double sided between...

The sad part is, I hate wasting precious Burl wood but I’m going to have to cut quite a bit away for the handles. I do save scraps and have turned a pen or two using scraps. These scraps will be saved and maybe used for a pen. A scrap pen example from a couple knife builds. Black ash and desert...

    GeneK's KITH WIP

Wow, it’s going to be a beautiful knife! 101-18, is this the 101st knife of 2018? If it is, that’s a big number. I am soooo slow.

Finally made a decent file guide

I’d say that file is a quality piece to get such a good fit right off the bat.
