For me,it was/is wearing safety gear, particularly dust masks or respirators !!! (I didn't/don't have a dust collection system) It's way too easy to be fiddling with something at the bench,and want to remove a little metal here,or quickly sand a little something there,reach for the angle...

And a good hunting sling-shot. The cheapest,easiest weapon you can pack along. Ammo is unlimited (in almost any situation),it's fairly quiet,and it's got danged near the same effective range and power as a 22 short. (small steel ball bearings are good ammo.)

Agreed with all the above: and,how many of those knives he showed you were made by JS or MS makers? There are a bunch of new makers hitting the spotlight in the last few years,who make great knives. I've been seeing a lot of (relatively) new makers selling beautiful using and collectible folders...
