    Fixed Blade Tutorial

Hey Bama, I'm glad to hear this tutorial helped you out in the knifemaking. I've had a couple of guys ask me if I was going to make it into a book. I'll admit I thought about it, but to be honest I've gotten too much information off of the forums. That's how I learned to make knives so i made...

    New mammoth supplier

Jerry McClure is a good friend of mine and he has started selling mammoth. If you know Jerry you'll know this doesn't mean any ole plain mammoth. This stuff is as good as what's in his secret drawer. Jerry is cutting them up and getting scales that are nearly a perfect match. The pieces I saw...

    Couple of slip joint WIP

Got some pics. The first is showing how I have it clamped up and polishing the tang to 600 grit. The next are just some shots during polishing. I use the mobil 1 like my good buddy Frank Niro suggested. I like it. In this next shot you can see some white shavings. That is buffing...

Ok some pictures will be posted tonight or tomorrow night. It's not finished but in the final stages of polish before it's hammered together. Also still waiting on gold for the pins. One thing I've had to do a couple times so far is make a new bushing. Putting these things together has caused...

    Couple of slip joint WIP

Polishing now I did put the blade back on the grinder and took the grind line higher. I left the grinder with a 600 grit finish then sanded the flats to 600 grit. Still had the spring sticking up when closed. Using a 600 grit belt I removed some from the bottom of the tang Polishing up...

Slip Joint makers and FLAT pieces

That's kind of what I figured. I'm doing some rearranging and what not and searching for a surface grinder. I'm starting to think my problem has two problems, the biggest of which is not parallel which maginifies everything else. I've got a heavy duty Kuhlmann pantograph that will be in...

Slip Joint makers and FLAT pieces

There wasn't a year or so ago. I looked into it for learning some machining myself. I did talk to a local machine shop, he gets 86 and hour for the surface ginder and said to expect at least 3 to 4 hours. That's hard for me to swallow for a 5 foot piece of steel 1.5" wide.I've never priced...

Slip Joint makers and FLAT pieces

Thanks for the tips. I think starting with precision ground steel would be best, I just can't find it the steel and sizes I like. I like the tape idea. Frank ya stranger, it has been a constant battle, sometimes it doesn't show up as bad. You are right though I do have a wear spot so I...

Slip Joint makers and FLAT pieces

I've been doing the figure 8, but I think my problems are starting off on the grinder. Like possibly it's flat after the granite plate, but not parallel. When I grind on the grinder my parts are already profiled. I start with a 120 grit belt and go from there. The main places that give me...

Slip Joint makers and FLAT pieces

Hey guys, got a little time and wanted to ask a question. One of my biggest problems with slip joints is getting things flat really flat. I can flat sand on the grinder to get the scale off then take it a granite plate and get what I think is flat. When I put the mic to it I find other wise. THe...
