    Balance

What factors come into play when thinking of knife balance? I've seen threads about balance when working with a knife and balance to a throwing knife. Any input appreciated. Thanks.

    ammo can quench tank help!

I'm using a 110V water heater element. They are about 6" long and available from any hardware store. Use a 1" electrical conduit threaded pipe coupling, cut it in half and weld it about an inch off the bottom of the ammo can. I like to drill the hole after I've welded the 'bung' on so the...

    More Quench ?'s

I've learned that hardening steel requires more than 'heat it and toss in water barrel'. I have a .30 ammo can full of canola oil, it holds just about a gallon. I want to install a 110V water heater element and t'stat to get the oil to proper heat for quench. Is the volume enough or do I...

    No heat from the oven.

I now have the oven 99% done and it gets hot. I've attached a few pictures of what I've ended up with. The elements will probably need to be replaced, sooner than later. Since I experimented trying to get it up to temp. I cut and re-configured the wire twice so it took some re-bendend and...

    set64rs controller problems (EEEE display)

I spent some time with the one I have last night and it started out reading the EEEE like yours did. After I got through putting in the parameters I wanted the E's went away and it read the proper temperature and when it reached my setting the control and alarm relays worked. I just got...

    set64rs controller problems (EEEE display)

I was looking for info on a PID I bought on line. In one of the online forums for it there was some information on an 'EEEE' error and how to correct it. It's long but here is the link http://www.lightobject.info/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=320 Hope it is of some help to you guys.

    2nd Practice knife

O1. Handle is maple with about 1/2" of spalting, I cut the good part off and saved it for myself. LOA is 8 3/8 with a 4 1/4 blade. Thanks to all those that have put up with my many questions.

    No heat from the oven.

As an FYI....I played around with the oven this weekend. I figured I wasn't out anything if I ruined the elements I had so I started by cutting a foot off of it. That didn't help and its a PITA to re-assemble so the next time I cut 2 feet off. Danged if it didn't start getting hot faster. In...

    2nd Practice knife

I built this for my cousin. I'm not sure who had the video on doing a 'plunge line' (I think it's called) with the chain saw file but I think it works for me. I'm going to try a hidden tang next.

    No heat from the oven.

For the knowledge I'll shorten it and try again....but, I have a digital controller and relay coming so I'll get 220V coils. Any idea where the best (sends you stuff that works) place to get correct elements is?

    No heat from the oven.

In the brick in back I drilled holes for the twisted ends of the elements. I used the SS crimps that were supplied with high temp wires to the controller, used the correct crimping tool and filled the holes with high temp cement. I have a 15A breaker that hasen't tripped and none of the wiring...

    Tutorials

Thanks for the info. I searched and found the first one but the paramaters I used did'nt find the other two. Are there any secrets or 'rules-of-thumb for fitting the pieces to the tang? And, if building a hidden tang can you weld a long bolt to the blade for a tang rather than use the extra...
