    Attaching horse stall mat

I haven't done any myself, but a lot of makers are having success with RTV silicon adhesive and micarta pins. Also, the newer rubber-toughened Gorilla superglue (CA) is getting pretty good reviews with the mat. Pins are fine.

Ways to get a good sharp edge

I used to sharpen with a slack belt, but was having problems with the belt running over the tip of the blade, and ruining it. I then switched over to using the flat platen, but, I wasn't getting a smooth feel to it....it was too bumpy a ride. Then the idea came to me to glue a piece of leather...

    Good ways to finish Bubinga?

Go very slow with the belt speed, and with a sharp belt. It'll burn on ya' quick. Teak oil works great.

    @&$!?$&!?@ Buffer

Those buffers are real *#^%'s. I just use them very lightly on handles, and very sparing at that, and with a strong grip, fully expecting that it's going to snatch it and slam it into something hard.

    Quenching oil

If anybody wants to try something pretty crazy, I heard of one guy using warmed-up common DOT-3 brake fluid for 1095. He said it was FAST!

    Quenching oil

For whatever it's worth, Joe Szilaski uses Ford (Motorcraft) ATF for his 10xx series steel, at 140 F. He says that it's the next best thing to commercial quenching oil. I've used it for quenching 1084 with great success, but for 1095, go with Parks 50. All I use now is Parks 50 and AAA.
