    Flat W2......

Nice hamon, Bubba. But, How do you like how it cuts? If I was ever to use this steel again (which, by the way, you would not believe the high price I paid for it) I would treat it just like 1095, except with a longer soak because of the alloys. Because of the alleged .86 C, I was treating it...

    Flat W2......

Knife kits uses Diehl Steel's W2. I personally do not like this steel one bit. The chemistry is way off from what Diehl's website says it is. I had it analyzed, to see what the heck was going on with this steel, and if anybody's interested in the actual composition, I'll be glad to post it.

Since I'm at it, don't use Cumaru for scales, either. At least, not cross-grained cuts.

Lignum Vitae? Heaviest/Strongest wood I've seen

I've heard that a lot about LV scales. I don't think Ray would use wood that was not completely dry.

straight minwax, or dilute w/ acetone?

Acryloid B-72 is much better than the Minwax; either with pulling a vacuum or as a soak.

    EvenHeat Oven?

I just ordered an Evenheat from Tracy (the 22.5 220v w/rampmaster control). I was looking at the Paragon's, too, but I heard that their customer service has gone way downhill.

What you guys missed at ashokan

AND, you'll notice in the pic that the infamous NJ Steel Baron Himself, Aldo Bruno, is supporting the propane tank in the background, obviously supervising the scene from a safe distance!:D
