    Updates - Hometown Hero Build

Bill, I do not have any recipients' names, nor time to find them. I am not set up to do kydex*. I will grind and assemble as many knives as you need, please don't let any "extra" blanks languish. Send them to me and I will take care of them. I do have plenty handle material, bolts etc. *anyone...

    Heat Treating Relish

When I want my kid, woman, or dogs off my couch, I just fart. Works ever time. :D

    Smoke/Prayers/Happy Thoughts request

Fellow 'Dogs, I need some backup, in the form of prayers for the people I love. I generally do not like airing personal stuff in public, but this is important. My woman's Daddy (AKA Steve, AKA Big Guy) is having some significant medical issues that need to addressed right now, and we will...

    best steel for a chopper/machete

What is he clearing, telephone poles? Steel guylines? :D I've never used W2, so I can't honestly say it would or wouldn't work. But honestly, I don't see why it wouldn't. You could temper the edge to 55RC or so and draw the spine back even further, I'm pretty sure that would be awfully...

    best steel for a chopper/machete

If he's breakin 1/4" blades clearing brush, something is very, very wrong. My first choice would be CPM-3V, but there are many alloys that will perform well, given the proper geometry and heat-treat.

Tips for assembly please? Scales on full tang with pins

All in all, you have it figured out. Peened pins and epoxy will certainly work, especially if you chamfer the holes in the scales a bit first like the other gents mentioned. You don't need to peen the pins a heckuva lot, in fact over-peening could make the pins swell too much and push the...

    BF Hacked???

I got a message from the site itself that they were updating virus stuff, then when I went back later I got a malware warning from my browser. Mu guess is that they're working on getting it cleared up.

Hometown Hero Build - Makers Recruiting Drive

I second that. I never served in the military, but having enjoyed the freedoms of being an American, I feel it's the least I can do to give back a little bit of my time and skill to help out some patriots. :)

Hometown Hero Build - Makers Recruiting Drive

If you don't have enough makers, I'd be happy to make an extra knife or two as well. I do need help with getting Kydex sheathes made; and probably will need a name(s) for recipient(s).

What makes a hunter or a hunting knife?

Guys, let me start by saying I've never killed, field-dressed or skinned anything bigger than a squirrel. But I've talked to an awful lot folks who have, and read everything I can my hands on. From the most famous folks to wannabe's on the intrawebz. I can tell you that there are nearly as many...

    Updates - Hometown Hero Build

Hey Bill, sorry I've been out of the loop lately. Nothing personal, just busy :) Anyway I got your pm and yes I'm on board, ready to grind and build one of Randy's blanks. Who do I need to send my address to?

How do your organize all the tiny stuff?

I have a couple of the plastic drawer things and like them a lot. Fishing tackle boxes are also pretty handy, and available in more sizes and styles than you can shake a stick at. From the size of a deck of cards up to 3 cubic foot suitcases with a bunch of trays/compartments. (The small ones...

    How good can it be

Good thread. I've made several knives out of blanks cut to my spec by a WJ service, and so far 90% of my knives have been HT'ed by Brad at Peters'. The design, grinding, polishing, assembly, finishing and sharpening is all me, all by hand. I call my work "handmade" with pride and full disclosure. :)

Recommend Steel for Kitchen Knives Please!

CPM-154 is an excellent choice. It can support a very thin, fine edge and is not terribly difficult to sharpen.
