    Which files do y'all prefer?

I agree that sadly, Nicholsons aren't what they used to be. Honestly, I consider them disposable, like sandpaper. Simonds are good, I found some Portugese files marked Tome that were very good. I will check out the Grobets. I once knew of a place that would re-sharpen old files pretty cheap, but...

    Question about knife returns/buybacks

No. Three weeks is more than enough for a client to decide if he really likes the knife, and certainly enough time for a carbon blade to spot if he didn't keep it oiled or waxed. I guarantee my work against defects in materials and craftsmanship. It doesn't sound like either of those is the...

    Business Cards, website, and broschures

My business cards are from VistaPrint, $15 shipped for 500 like Frank said. My website is run through GoDaddy. I can update, make changes, etc at will. There are all kinds of "widgets" I haven't installed yet, like the PayPal buy-it-now buttons and so forth. It costs me basically $100/year...

    Stainless

I know that 416 will get up to around 46Rc if you mix it in with a batch off 440C, grind a blade out of it by mistake and send it off to Peters' for HT. I imagine that would improve both the scratch-resistance and corrosion resistance. I'm told 304 is better for both scratch and wear...

    Elmax one off

Nice work as always. Looking forward to your test results, I've heard a lot of good things about Elmax.

Something a little different (for me anyway)

Well said, I completely agree. Eric, I don't see any reason you couldn't use CF arrows for thong tubes, in fact I think it would make for a nice contrast with lighter-colored handles and blend well with dark ones. If you have too many, send me one and I'll give it a try :D

9 3/4" Camp Knife and friend

I like a wide/thick butt (no comments from the peanut gallery, please!). Especially on a smaller knife where you can't really grab the thing like a club, it gives the pinky or ring finger something to leverage against for control and a measure of power. The bottom line (ho ho) is, use it to cut...

    CPM 154 or Elmax?

Maybe, maybe not. Rc hardness is only one measurement and different steels will do their best at different Rc's. Percentage of various alloying elements and especially the resulting carbide formation, play a huge role too. I've used and tested a fair amount of CPM-154 and I gotta tell ya...

9 3/4" Camp Knife and friend

I'd like to see a little more softening to the handles on the smaller two; the edges of the handles look a bit square from here. But that first one... man that's really cool! Excellent, handy blade design, a nice clean grind and the scales blend together beautifully. Nice texture but not too...

To grind or not to grind?

KnifeMaker.ca is spot on as usual :) Follow his guidelines and you will save worry, trouble and the mind-numbing heartache of hand-sanding deep scratches out of hardened high-alloy steel.

    Terrio Handmade Knives picture thread

Thanks Sean. BTG is indeed a reference to Megadeth and Pantera, as well as to Zakk Wylde. The story goes that Zakk and Dimebag Darrel liked to drink Crown Royal with a splash of Coke, and called it a BTG in honor of Dave Mustaine :D I made up templates and had Dave at GLWJ cut the profiles...

    Terrio Handmade Knives picture thread

Ask and Ye Shall Receive... eventually! Sorry it took so long to get these pics up. Both these knives presented a lot of new challenges, from the sabre grinds and recurve on the "small" one to the sawteeth and the weird shape of the guard on the big one. They were a lot of fun to build and I...

    Hunter/EDC's For Sale

UPDATE 9-15 the PotBelly Skinner is SOLD pending funds. Thank you! These are all complete and ready to ship. All knife work done by me, except the heat-treating which was done by Peters' HT, and the powder-coating on the Black&Blaze hunter was done by TrappRiver PC here in Central Wisconsin...

Thoughts on Media Blasting and Coatings

That's a good point, ffkaelb. Be sure to ask your PC guy what temps he operates at. My guy never goes above 375F so it's not a problem for the steels I use.

Knifemakers Guild Show Louisville Ky. Sept. 15-18

Not at all, I brought a handful last year and got a lot of great tips and feedback from some of the best makers on the planet. It would be silly NOT to bring a knife or two and ask questions about how to improve them :) I won't make it this year, so make sure y'all say hi to everyone for me and...
