    hidden tang glue-up fixture

Thought this might help some of you folks out... the general idea that is. It's a fixture (2 of them actually) that I made during school hours to clamp a handle and hidden tang knife together during glue-up. The blade is clamped down by the ricasso, and the fixture will pivot/slide around...

How long does hand sanding take you?

Paul, I didn't really offer anything to help... just some empathy ;) Some things that really helped me: -Make sure there is a sturdy backing behind your blade. I know a lot of guys hand sand with the blade sticking out off the edge of the bench with nothing under it, but I don't like fighting...

How long does hand sanding take you?

Paul- If you figure out anything magical, let me know ;) :) It can vary GREATLY from knife to knife for me. Mostly based on desired finish. I'm a bit surprised at the comment about double the amount of abrasive used in the lower grits, as it's the opposite for me. The integral I'm working...

Knife #8 WIP - For the Lamb Boys

Man, I need to get to this forum more often. This is a great WIP Erin! cool 1 Paul is welcome to come by, but apparently he thinks it's like a long drive from Arizona or something  :p The pool guy was Mark, and he seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. Keep up the...

Knife #8 WIP - For the Lamb Boys

Look'n GREAT dude :) Your eye for design is coming along about 8500 times faster than most (maybe some people just have it and some don't huh1) I REALLY like the long, lean point and overall curve. Well played, and a great reason for building them! 2thumbs

    Satin finnish

Frank I appreciate your help and willingness to share. I spent some time with a knifemaker several years ago that was really negative and close minded towards anything other than HIS WAY. I never want to be like that. It dawned on me that I pretty much was being that way about this Mobil 1...

    Satin finnish

Haha... not insulting at all Mike! huh1 :) I really gotta work on articulating myself better... I tried to use the smilies to simulate the smirk on my face had we been talking face to face :D I would say this 1500X is a little finer than what I would have gotten without the Mobil 1...

    Satin finnish

Mike, I know how to get a clean finish... I've got about 30 different sanding blocks. The issue is trying to do it with Mobil 1 like the guys have been doing in this thread. I figured out the finger thing about 15 years ago :p :D

This pic probably shows it best. It's clean, just not clean enough. :)

    Satin finnish

Okay, I went over both sides of this blade with 1500X Norton Black Ice and Mobil 1. I didn't get a perfectly clean finish, but it's completely possible that this is due to the fact that I may have done something wrong, or it's just too fine of paper for this technique. Rather than just...

    Satin finnish

Well I finally got to Wal Mart AND remembered to get the Mobil 1.... Haven't tried it just yet. I was a bit puzzled at Wally world, because there are about 18 kinds of Mobil oil at the one I went to. The guy at the store was looking like he was gonna offer me some help/advice and I was...

    Satin finnish

Frank- I know I snipped about your post on BF about this and want to admit that I have never tried it with Mobile 1. It might just be a hard pill to swallow as it took me a few years to come to the finishing techniques that I use... and blade finish is one of the things "my" collectors know...

    Some questions on Etching names/logos

You guys are exactly right about the current settings. I was just looking back through the thread and saw I wrote it backwards. Glad you guys caught it because I haven't been online since I posted that the other day. Sorry to give you bad info Ed! :o

    Some questions on Etching names/logos

Ed, all my etching stuff is from Marking Methods, so I can't help you with the exact #'s on products, but I know that I've gone to etching everything with Marking Methods "general" solution. I have one for stainless, and one for carbon steel, etc... but they're general solution works well on...

    0-1 source

That seems like a good deal. flatground.com has 7/32 X 6 X 18 for $64.67... that's not counting shipping, but it is another 1" in width.

What do you wear at the show?

Thanks guys :) Ed is a prime example of projecting yourself well at a show. And I'm not just saying that because he said nice things about me here. I've been saying it since the first week-end I met him at the Eugene, OR, show about 9 years ago. If you want to see someone who carries...

What do you wear at the show?

Doh... one more thing. If you are a table holder at a show like the ABS Expo, you are REQUIRED to wear a suit coat. Of course some guys wear a Tshirt and wranglers with their sport coat... but that's just not how I rizz-oll. :)
