    Welding Stainless

How and what rod did you use. To weld something like this I would preheat the parent pieces to over 500f then either tig or stick weld with 309 or pure nickel filler on the stainless and 7018 on the damascus. Then I would do a anneal type cycle to stress relieve it before it ever cooled down...

You know your obsessed with making knives when...

When there are little pieces of wore out fine grit sand paper near every place you set and the kitchen table has several knives in various stages, a Ames hardness tester, metal polish and paste wax taking up most of the space. If I ever get married again the new wife might want to battle for...

    Help wiring HT oven

Yes on the door interrupt. On the other some of us took the long way to get to the knife making part. I studied electronics in college. Here is a fun fact. On elements you need heavy enough wire to handle the amperage. 16 gauge say 15 amps and 14 gauge for 20 amps. Kanthal A1 14 gauge .214...

    Help wiring HT oven

What was the kiln originally wired for? If it was originally a 220v kiln and you use 110 it will be horribly slow because it will only have 1/4 the power not 1/2. If it was originally 110 and you use 220 watts will quadruple and burn out the element. Like this. Say you have a coil that is...

    Big Mistake

I once shipped 2 SpeedGlas lenses back to the factory for repair. One was under warranty. USPS. I did insure them for $600 total. When nothing was heard for a while I called Hornell they never showed up. It took me months to get my money for them and at first they would only shell out part of...

    Dryer Outlet

I would think that with a 15 amp breaker 12 gauge wire would be fine depending on the distance. 12 gauge is often used for 20 amp service and is rated for 20 amps. I did wire all my 20 amp 220 breakers with 10 gauge though because you should only load a wire to 80% of its rated capacity. There...

    Sandblasters

If you look in your yellow pages I bet there is a place nearby. Many machine shops and welding shops also have sand blasters. I have a small blast cabinet and after trying glass beads on D2 and getting very little in the way of results I used some crushed garnet and got a nice look. Jim

    Getting ivory

also the Miombo-Mopane Woodlands and Grasslands, Okavango and the Sudd, but the sad truth is that Africa's wild areas do not add up to the amount in the US. Plus areas in places like Eastern Montana have huge areas with populations of less than 1 person per sq mile and are not even considered...

Anyone who's built their own etcher help please!

If you run a metal case for the transformer, switches and diodes the case needs the ground wire. If you ran an all plastic case you would not. The ground wire is there to protect you if the case somehow became charged.

Oh no, what could this be ???

Cool, how does the lock pin retract? I have been messing with some knife kits button locks and the side across thru bolt is tricky to get just right when you replace the blade. Is this a possible future GLWJ kit?

What kind of lighting at the grinder?

I have a lot of the swing arm lights with the spring loaded hinges, but, I recently got a halogen with the flexible neck and will get more. First place they will go is on the grinders. You can aim them so much better.

Whats on your work bench this March?

I have a bunch of D2 hunters in progress. Most of them have been to 220 grit on a flat disc. Going to take them to about 600 before the HT. Have a bunch of maple, redwood and iron would burl. A few will get metal guards and fancier scales. Once these are done I will have some stock.

    D-2

I am grinding out 24 drop points from 3/16 D2 right now. It is an excellent edge holder. Only draw back is it will snap if side loaded very far. Have you checked with Aldo. He had some a while back. Aldo njsteelbaron@gmail.com
