Any experience with GLOC Quench A?

I came across this quenchant that someone mentioned regarding what they used for Cru Forge V. It was also mentioned as a good option for 80CrV2. I don’t have experience with medium speed quench oils, but I’ve been looking for something to round out my “system” so I’m not only quenching in Parks...

    Making your own pocket clips?

Sorry it took a while to get these pictures posted. Here is an in progress one and with it on the knife. Hopefully it shows what I was talking about... I milled a pocket into the micarta so the Ti on the clip is sunken into the scale. Jeremy

    Making your own pocket clips?

That looks great. I like deep carry as well, so I bent mine twice so the part that attached to the knife was in line with the clip...if that makes sense...? I’ll try and find some pictures to post up to help show what I mean. It’s two 90 degree turns and it can definitely get a little wonky. But...

    Liner Lock. Take 2.

Looking good and nice job on all the fabricating of your parts. Making pivots and fasteners yourself is pretty cool in my book. Looking forward to the end result. Jeremy

    Making your own pocket clips?

I made my own Ti clip out of some .050 sheet and you definitely want to heat it as has been mentioned. I think .040 probably would’ve been slightly better for me. If you’ve done any sheet metal work before, there are definitely some similarities. Making hard angles is harder the thicker the...

Can i use 80crv2 for a hunting knife

I made my son one out of that steel and it performs quite well in the field. I used some stabilized buckeye burl for the handle that he picked out from the woods available. It has also done quite well. A quality wood can do just fine for you if done well and finished appropriately. Jeremy

    My Surface Grinder Attachment

Thanks for the encouragement, David. I’m trying to keep my expectations low, then maybe I can be pleasantly surprised ;). I just need to find the time to get into the shop and start figuring how I’m going to put the different pieces together. I really can’t wait to test it on a folder blade to...

    My Surface Grinder Attachment

Thanks guys. If it works even “pretty well”, I feel like it’ll be worth the time and money. Standing at the granite plate with a folder blade and going through several sheets of sandpaper is fun and all, but I’d definitely rather run it on this contraption and save myself a bunch of time as well...

    My Surface Grinder Attachment

I finally have my SGA build going thanks to the folks here. A special thanks to Stromberg as well for the email correspondence and tips along the way. I'm using 3/4" aluminum plate that I had on hand for the magnetic chuck and got the slots all milled out. I think it's 15.5" long and I'm...

    A bouncing new Baby Peter-Wright!!!

Wow! And I thought your old anvil was big and heavy. And, the story of loading it onto the Air Force plane for the trip home was a visual I still enjoy ;). Betting this “new” one serves you well. Jeremy

    Damascus and carbon fiber linerlock

For anyone who looks at his pictures and thinks John puts a LOT of time into the details, they’re right. Having been in his shop with him for the better part of a week, I can attest to that. Fantastic looking knife, John. Whoever is lucky enough to have that one is going to love it. Thanks for...

    Liner Lock Project

Thanks, Mike. And yes, it’s definitely a “think before you do it” endeavor. All of the individual steps aren’t really all that difficult. If a guy can make a well done fixed blade, there really isn’t a reason he couldn’t make a folder, as far as the skill set goes. It all comes down to figuring...

    8" to 12" grinder wheel....

I just ordered a contact wheel from that company for the surface grinder attachment I’m going to build like the guys who have posted on here. I contacted the company and asked if I could get the harder rubber on the wheel and they said yes, but it would take a little longer to get it made. Glad...

    Liner Lock Project

The end is nearing. I have managed to get through the big hurdles with the build and have learned a whole bunch of things along the way that will hopefully make the next one better. I wanted to make a pocket clip for this knife, so I got some .040 Ti out and went to it. There were some...

    Nevermind

It’s an interesting question you pose. I have chosen not to make the one that the one maker asked me not to. He was certainly polite and made mention of the significant work he put into the design which made it somewhat unique. He has the task of making knives well enough to feed his family. I...

    Nevermind

You’re right-there will be some strong opinions on this. I’ve seen many statements similar to “there’s nothing new under the sun” when it comes to knife design/shapes. Therefor, it’s basically a free for all. Personally, I don’t feel that way. I have seen many knives that I REALLY liked-the...

    Shop Built Suface Grinder Attachment

WOW-that's pretty impressive. You clearly have some machining skills. I really appreciate you putting up all of those pictures. I don't know that I have the capability to make something like that. It's a great example of skill and designing coming together, for sure. Jeremy

    Shop Built Suface Grinder Attachment

I feel like I've pretty well derailed the OP's thread with all of my questions.... Once I source parts and get things built, I'll put up a thread with some finished up pictures and how it's attached. It'll be basically the same as most of the other examples I've seen, just mounted at an angle...
