Who Is Making The Best Drill Press For The Buck??

I bought a bench top delta last year. The Delta is solid and works great with the small drills I use for folders. It has a worklight and a swing out tray that are really useful. The built in laser alignment cross is fun to play with but I never got it to match the drill tip perfectly. ernie

Bevel grinding, what am I doing wrong?

I was told that I would start to understand the grinding process by the time I made 100 knives, so I started making one a week and giving them away. I found that it was much easier to grind smaller blades using a welding magnet to hold the steel. ernie

James, I'm looking forward to a great knife.. Last year Stan sent me a folding knife and I sent a hunter to you..... this year is backwards, you are sending me a hunter and I'm sending a folder to Stan. All in all I keep getting the best knives. ernie

    Why can't I drill a 1/4" hole?

when drilling steel that hardens I have noticed that I do best with the slowest RPM, using cutting oil and not stopping. Once I start a hole I continue till I'm done. If the drill is dull and running hot it is possible for the metal to instantly harden if you back off then restart drilling...

Value of RC Hardness on Blade?

If the RC value "is not worth a hill of beans" then what should I use to test blades? As JT stated sometimes you don't get the steel you ordered. What do you do when you make mosaic pattern welded steel blades? I would like a test method that gives me a number that can be compared to other...

    Need CAD software for waterjetting

I will be happy to answer 2D CAD questions if I can. I have lots of experience getting files ready for vinyl cutting, screen printing, CNC routing and Laser engraving. Waterjet cutting is probably similar.

    Need CAD software for waterjetting

The best free 2D cad system that I have found is DraftSight. I use it on both my Macs and PCs http://www.3ds.com/products/draftsight/free-cad-software/ If you are a long time Autocad user it will feel very familiar. It supports about any format that you care to use.

    Literary references...

I think people are correct when they say "learn a particular steel and stick with it" this means testing, testing and more testing. The number of variables is overwhelming. first think of the steel formulation. the specs for composition allow variation so you have batch to batch variation and...

    Feathering adhesive alternative?

I use that adhesive for both grinding disks and holding T-shirts on a platen during screen printing. It stays tacky and I can probably print 100 shirts before spraying it again. With grinding disks I try to remember to remove the disk when I am done so I don't have a problem removing it a...

What makes for a good Hammer In?

I've been to lots of hammer-ins. For me the demonstrators are the most important. I have never picked up a hammer and forged out a knife at an event. I watch a few demos and look for deals from the tailgaters. A successful meet is one where I drive home with a truckload of deals. At the...

    Tire hammer....time!!!!

Actually I had a dirt floor and I didn't want the hammer to sink so Mixed up some dirtcrete and poured a base 6 or 8" with no reinforcement for the 100 lb little Giant. Later I poured a 4 " dirtcrete floor for the rest of the shop and moved in a 50 lb Meyer hammer. I don't recommend this...
