Why am I messing with this stuff?

Hey Calvin. Do you have any pictures of your horizontal grinder?

Why am I messing with this stuff?

As Tony Bose has said many times, making slip joints requires a real bad case of the 'want to's'. Like most knifemaking, if you're in it for the money, you'd probably be better off doing something else. Personally, I love working on slip joints, so it isn't about the money for me. I get much...

    The Strauss Pirate 36 caliber

That is simply incredible. To say that this pistol will be a head turner is probably THE understatement of 2012.

    slip joint handle question

The tools I've seen successfully used have two pieces. One that is stationary in a drill vice and one that spins in the drill press chuck. The tools are similarly shaped and typically made out of hardened tool steel. The stationary pin supports the pin from the backside while the front side...

    The Strauss Pirate 36 caliber

Wow, talk about tedious! It sure looks great though.

    slip joint handle question

What type of material are you using for the pins? I believe Tony Bose and several others use 316L SS as it spins easier than other stainless steels. You should be able to source this from a local welding supply company. Obviously, the pivot pin material still needs to match the bolster...

    HELP! Web page review

Seems to work just fine for me. I do not see any links for placing an order or a shopping cart for available knives. Were those features part of the previous site?

That is exactly what I was thinking. Not totally complete and still took top honors. Well done Bruce, well done indeed.

Fiddleback Forge Bushboot A2 steel EIRW over Paduk

I've been doing a little thinning of the herd these last few months, but I've held off on letting this one go. This is a fantastic knife that doesn't get carried, but it certainly deserves to be both carried and used. Andy put a lot of heart and soul into this one and it shows. Originally...

    Your Thoughts?

I think your initial reaction is spot on Ed. Very few of those tasks actually involve cutting and several are outright abuse. I would pass on being any part of that.

    Interframe inlays

Try this one. It goes to the main 'workshop' area. The link to the interframe inlay tutorial is one of three in the folding knives section. www.knifenetwork.com/workshop/

    Interframe inlays

Hey Frank, I think the link is busted. Just go to The Knife Network and look in the column at the left. There is a "workshop" link. Click on that and scroll down to the folding knives section. The interframe tutorial is one of maybe three on folders. If I were not posting from my phone I'd...

    Swayback Wharncliffe How To

Hey Michael, It is certainly a great tool to have. In hindsight, my time would have been better spent buying one than making one. Do a search in the folding knives forum. Don Robinson was selling some a while back for a very reasonable price. Regards, Josh

The OP responded to a PM I sent him asking the same and it sounds like this book is well worth the money. I'd also be interested in your opinions once you read it though.

    lockback tutorials

I apologize for resurrecting this old thread, but I was curious if anyone else had feedback on the book recommended above, "The lockback folding knife" (from Design to Completion).
