2 chef and one butchers knife

Dude, you're my hero! Lovin' that butcher knife! (and the other two are shabby either!)

    desktop knife

Another great example of your workmanship, both with metal and wood. I also love your photographs. It's one area I think most people take for granted when looking at your work. Did you use a router to make the inletting?

    5th antler knife

If a rack has to be cut up, that's a fine way to compliment the buck that wore it! Great work as usual!

Thanks Walt! I'd forgotten about them.

    Maker's Mark, Opinions?

Honestly, for me they're all kinda "busy", with #3 being the least. What do you think about just leaving the two L's the way they are(one above the other) and leaving off the rest of your name. I think that would look good.

    Where to buy M4?

I'm looking for a supplier of M4 steel. I know Boss has some, but his site doesn't list .103/.113 in the 1.5 or 2" widths. Alpha Supply hasn't had no thin stock lately either. Just wondering where everyone else buys their M4.

What are the parameters for a "hunter"?

Thanks for sharing a mighty fine article! I especially got a kick out of him mentioning the guy with the pocket knife. I've field dressed and processed a few Whitetails with a pocket knife in my younger days, not to mention countless fur bearers and had nary a problem. I never feel "under...

    Need a new stencil guy

I'd suggest you try IMG-Electromark. I believe Boss uses them to make the stencils he has for sale at USAKM. I have some of these to mark the steel type on my knives. I use Ernies for my makers mark. The IMG ones are thicker than Ernies and work better for me. I always get a nice clean, crisp...

    First attempt at a slipjoint

I think they look great for a first attempt. Like Mike said, I can only hope my 1st attempt will look like that!

    Finished, but not happy

Good looking knife Eric! However, I think I see what you're talking about. The "splotches" in the finish? I love micarta for knife handles...performance wise....but for aesthetics, I hate 'em for this very reason! I'd take it back down to 400 or even 320 and try again, being careful of when...

What are the parameters for a "hunter"?

What a cool thread! Like Nathan said above, the ideal Hunting knife depends on what you're hunting. Even though I could manage to cut up a Moose with a Small Game knife, I'd prefer something a littler larger! Since Whitetails are the most hunted Big Game, I'm assuming that's the critter you're...

    Going Full Time...

Congratulations Boss Dog. Just remember, you suppose to run your business, don't let the business run you! It'll sneak up on you if you're not careful bro.

Why not a traditional Butcher's knife?

Ahh! Nice. That's what I'm talkin' about!

Why not a traditional Butcher's knife?

Thanks guys! I've been kicking around the idea of making some boning knives. I might also give a shot toward a butchers knife to see if there are any interest. The worse that could happen is that I end up with another Kitchen knife! :)

Why not a traditional Butcher's knife?

I need to start off by saying that I'm not a Kitchen Knife guru. I don't know all the names of the Super Cool Jap knives are or what each is used for. I grew up out in the country so to speak and probably never saw a "real" Chef knife until I was grown and out on my own. My question is, why...

    members kitchen knife gallery

These are cool! I started on my first Kitchen knives about a year ago and finally got around to finishing them just before Christmas as a present for our friends. I also made the knife block. It's from Black Walnut and Red Oak. The knives are CPM 154. The cleaver/chopper is a design I saw on the...

Hand Sharpening Systems ~ Edge Pro vs Wicked Edge

For about the same money as their Pro system, you can get one of these. Sharp Machine I bought one years ago at a gun show and absolutely love it! It takes about 5 minutes or so to take a new blade to scary sharp.

Scotch Brite belts for blade finishing?

On my fancier knives, I'll grind up to 120 or 220 and then hand sand up from there, changing directions between grits. On my user knives, I'll either go from a ceramic 60 to a 120 then to a Trizact belt and go up through to an A45 or an A30. My method for finishing for a silky satin finish is to...
