    Handle pins

Lately I've been using 3/32 nickel silver pins for my hidden tangs and corby or loveless style fasteners of various sizes for full tangs. I've just been adding it to my order when I am purchasing other items from the knife supply places.

    About to start forging....

Nothing else to add to the advice that's already been provided above. I've been forging for about a year and like using .250 x 1" 1084 to forge hunting size knives. My next order will be .250 x 1.25" and 1.5" as I'm wanting to start messing around with some camp knives and Bowies in the near...

    New Welding Forge WIP

Ed - I have local access to a steal of a deal on some PCG Castmax 31 HR castable. Looking online it appears to be high alumina, rated for 3100F, with claims for good chemical resistance. Being aware that you do what you do for a reason, is Kast-O-Lite 3000F the only stuff you'd recommend...

    80CRV2.... Checking it out

Thanks for this information Ed. I was thinking about this thread a few days ago and wasn't able to dig it up. Like others, I'm anxiously awaiting to see the results of your testing on this steel. I'm specifically interested in how Blade #1 stacked up against the rest of the field. Although...

In a bind with my grind!!

I'd definitely go along with her idea of making pens......Damascus pens. This may be the perfect opportunity for you to acquire a grinder, forge, press, power hammer, surface grinder, metal lathe, etc. This way if you decided that you didn't like making pens anymore, you'd already have a great...

    Hello from the Gem State!

It only seems appropriate to introduce myself as I just joined the Knife Dog forum. Being somewhat new to this game, I sure enjoy the challenge of making knives in my spare time.....in between family and work responsibilities. My current focus in the knife shop (garage) is learning to forge...
