    Question about knife returns/buybacks

I had a customer order a knife with a textured and etched finish, carbon steel blade. He has had the knife about 3 weeks now and has contacted me twice saying that spots of rust are appearing on the blade even though it is stored in a dry environment and has not been used. He has asked if I will...

    Bead Blasting & Maker's Mark

I do it before, my experience says that the smoother the surface of the blade, the better for etching the mark. I would avoid marking over any type of texture if you can help it.

Design Phase of Hometown Hero Build

I'm liking Denny's design but I would like it even more with a little stub guard on it. I have been dragging my feet on getting a design up of my own, maybe I will do that today.

    Chilling Plates

I have used chilled/frozen plates to accelerate the quench when HTing 3v, it does not seem to reach full hardness with a standard plate quench unless the stock is very thin. Still comes out about a half a point harder when I send them to Peter's.

Feedback - Feedback - Feedback Please ! Hometown Hero Build

The concept is a good starting point, the timeline and logistics being the major variables, which will materialize at their own rate regardless of how good the plan is. I can't think of any changes that I would make. I am open to making a knife and at least giving it a shot with the local...

I am grateful for the opportunity to be involved in this and am proud of what we made of it. Do let us know if there are any care items these...

    Gluing Kydex?

Try cleaning the inside surfaces with rubbing alcohol before putting the kydex in the oven, then play with the temp. until the halves start sticking together when they come out of the press. It's usually pretty easy to pop them apart but I had one recently that was welded tight enough that one...

    Gluing Kydex?

Can't speak on adhesives but it is possible to get the kydex to weld itself together in the press if you get it a pinch too hot and press it nice and tight.

    bog oak

Bog oak is not only traditional, it takes thousands of years to mineralize, so a piece of bog oak harvested from native British soil has probably seen a a century or 2 as a live tree, and many more as it mineralized in the ground, making it literally a piece of British history. Small wonder some...
