Thanks for the info. I'll stick to finding the 17.5 nicholson files which I have had good knives out of them.

I was looking at ebay for rasp files and came on some old diamond rasp files. I have made knives from nicholson farrier rasp files before. Are the old diamond files good for making knives as well as the nicholson files?

I use antler as handles either scales or a solid piece. I have used PPermanganate and I want to try to use leather dye in red, blue, or whatever color on the antlers. I have seen on threads posted where you boil the antler in water with the dye but, can't remember the next process. Any other...

After quenching in oil " transmission oil, or vegetable oil" blade gets this bubble looking scales. I usually have no choice but, to scuff to take off. What is the cause of this scales to get on the blade during quench?.:confused:
