    Best This/Best that Questions

Agreed...so when we are faced with these questions of best...steering them toward the correct questions will help them immensely. And most people here will and are doing that but there are still some that get so caught up in their own technical interpretation of what "best" is. Frankly I...

    Best This/Best that Questions

Well put Tai...I remember getting berated not too long ago from someone when I suggested my method for heat treating 5160. When I first started using 5160 from Aldo I found that one quench and one temper was leaving the edge soft. I started doing a triple normalize;quench; and temper which I...

Forge that's never been lit - by a stock removal maker.

Your forge looks to be overall the size of my Chile Forge Habanero but with a smaller interior. The also do not use a castable refractory but with a forge that size they recommend using a 30lb tank of Propane or two 20lb tanks linked together. My forge gets hot fast I can be forging in 10...

    Which Oven ?

I just purchased the Knife Dogs heat treat oven with the digital controls. It is made by Paragon and has a side opening door. It doesn't have a cut off switch on the door but common sense can avoid danger there.

Couple of New Kitchen Knives wrapped in Kirinite!

Beautiful work Steve. I do have a question for you and anyone else who has used the Kirinite. How far do you sand to and are you buffing on a felt wheel afterward ? With G10 I hand sand to 400 then buff on a felt wheel with white compound and I get a very smooth surface. Just wondering...

    Finishing cocobolo wood

I hand sand to 400 grit then hit it on my buffer wheel with white buffing compound. The oils in the wood seem to naturally come to the surface when it heats up from the friction. I have been able to get it to a very high shine and it almost feels like plastic. Very smooth...I have never...
