    Looking for an AEB-L recipe

I'm going to be grinding a few knives in AEB-L this week and was wondering if anyone had a good recipe for this steel with about 61-62Rc in mind. I will be using dry ice and denatured alcohol for the sub zero quench. I do not have access to liquid nitrogen. Thanks in advance.

    Scotchbrite woes

That's lots of back and forth between grinding and sanding, but it shows in the final product. That is a very nice knife.

    second Powerhammer arrived

That's a pretty awesome looking shop.

    How do I fix this?

It's not a scratch, it's the discoloration from the heat treat. The foil was triple folded so I don't think the packets leaked. This is what they looked like out of the foil.

    How do I fix this?

Thanks for the advice. I was scared about messing up the grind line.

    How do I fix this?

I heat treated this AEB-L prior to grinding, hand sanded the ricasso area and along the spine with 1000 grit sand paper to get rid of the heat treat discoloration and somehow missed this. It's only noticeable (or more noticeable) in certain lighting and angle. I ordered some ceramic media the...

    Kydex sheath

I got sidetracked making small EDC knives. I made these two sheaths tonight and found out I'm not good at making the taco style sheaths. I don't get a good fit or feel with them.

This is ground post heat treat and I have a file jig that I clamp into a grinding jig. It's probably considered cheating by most folks, but I'm new to knife making and it seems to work for me. Someday when I have a lot of time and steel to destroy I will learn how to grind free hand. I'm still...

I definitely went slow today. I did a full flat grind on this one which turned out pretty much perfect....but the edge is too thick. Maybe I'll get it together on the next one.

Thanks. I was cutting it really slow and along the line. The wood did chip on one of the drill holes. I'm learning to try to go a little slower. I think this one will be my EDC because the flats have some scratches in them that I wasn't able to buff out so I tried using a scotchbrite style belt...

I had one small piece of this wood and was able to (just barely) make two scales out of it.

    Heat treat coloration difference question

Thanks for the reply and info. Makes sense. I put these in cold and heat the oven and blades together so it's a lengthy process but the final temp is probably the one that matters the most. These ones I did today the same way. The two wharncliffe styled ones were in the middle. 10 minute soak time.

    Heat treat coloration difference question

They were in the Evenheat rack that I bought with the oven so I assume they were spaced correctly. This is the first time I've done four stainless blades together. I have four more to do today and will try to remember the order that they are in the rack and see if there is one that stands out...

    Heat treat coloration difference question

Thanks. I just thought that it was kind of weird. Weird wiggs me out when I'm making stuff and I don't know what happened or why.

    Heat treat coloration difference question

Why do they look different? I heat treated these four together tonight in separate triple folded envelopes with a small piece of cardboard in each envelope (tip towards it) and they came out somewhat different looking. All were wiped down with acetone prior to being placed in the envelopes. One...

Good point. Working on small knives definitely is different, especially grinding the bevel. Not much there to work with. I think the grind came out not too bad, but the plunge lines are off. I think I know what I did wrong there so hopefully I don't do it again.

I made a small EDC type of knife (it's AEB-L and will be getting a handle in a day or two) and one of the hunting style knives I did in W2.

    Finished 3 this week!

That's a very nice looking knife and an excellent idea combining all the items with it. I think it's a really good price for the customer.
