Just sent this one to it's new owner.

Geezum Pete! The handle work and incorporating turquoise is very elegant. I grew up in El Paso area and absolutely been a fan of turquoise/bead work. I used to have a number of diamondback skins - don't recall what I did with them, but I wish I had them now. Great job!

What's going on in your shop?

That came out exceptionally well. Mammoth tooth coloring contrasts nicely with the slick black blade. I could see that strapped to my belt.

    Maker’s Mark On Damascus

It's distinctive - I like it...kind of has a nostalgia 50's company logo. I mean that in a positive way.

    Harden Tiny Knife

That knife made me smile. If you were a garden gnome - it would be an awesome blade.

Building a pattern in laminated steel

Yeah, I read your first post several times and my inexperience wouldn't allow me to visualize the technique. Hadn't heard of doing that before. Very cool and Interesting "hammond hamon" look.

    Safety PSA

Ain't got a picture, but a friend of mine didn't lock down a bit on his routing table. That bit missed his face, shot up into the sheet rock. I really really hate those WTF moments.

Building a pattern in laminated steel

Yes it does to me as well...love the look. The sheath rocks - that's a good looking cover. I'm guessing you used the screwdriver as a .. hammering guide?

Knife made out of U2 Spy plane wing skid.

That's a way cool story for a knife. Dang cool. Now every U2 plane is in danger of being torn apart.

    Quench tank

So let me ask y'all....the oil affected more by the number of blades or does time degrade it if only used occasionally? How to tell if the quench material has gone bad? btw that's a cool quench tank, one I think I'd copy.

    Mosaic Damascus Hunter

Sweet blade. Thought I was looking at some wootz steel there for a second. You make some of the more dramatic Damascus steels I've seen. How long did it take to forge that?

    Another rifle sling

Not only will it be something he'll always remember that you made for him...but it's something he'll pass along to his son...(when he gets old enough). Great job!

Sheathmaking: tips and tricks and getting started

I mark out my stitch line with Tandy's grover, follow with one of the spacer (star wheel) sets for the holes, and then I use my dremel drill press to drill the holes...makes things a lot quicker and easier. btw - i was using a rubber mat under the drill press, but the kitchen table as a work...

    Beaded and Tacked Sheath

Thanks Scalphunter - I'll post it. Thought you might like to see this bead work - from Big Chief Larry Bannock - Star Hunter. 24"X24" He finished it in 8 months. Afterwards he thought it was cursed - he had a lot of bad luck that year...so he gave it to me.

    Dry ice bath tub

Why mess with dry ice, acetone, antifreeze (deadly to dogs if ingested) and not just use LN2? Is it availability, cost per use?

    My Latest Take-Down Knife

I should have rephrased that question as to what purpose does a take down offer, as opposed to "why would anyone want". Tnx. Kevin. It is an interesting knife with unique characteristics. It is cool - I'd understand an owner's bragging rights to show it off too.

    My Latest Take-Down Knife

Kevin that blade is awesome. Love the handle,..all of it really. I was waiting for somebody to ask what Nelsonite is. Thank KenH. It seems blade smiths strive for precision and permanence so nothing will ever pop off. This is the first Take Down I've seen. I'm so new it hurts,... why...

Costs of running a heat treat furnace??

Sorry - updated account...I live in Metairie (New Orleans) LA. I had to call Entergy (elec. co.) because I frankly didn't understand the bill. They said my base charge per kW is 2 cents a kW. Last month, for March, kW used cost $186....plus storm restoration charges $10.22, fuel adjustment...

Costs of running a heat treat furnace??

Ken, is that oven a 120 volt or 240 volt? My understanding there is little difference in cost between the two for the same size oven, but a 240 volt oven ramps up to target heat faster, not necessarily cheaper in electric costs, just quicker..

What to get first a oven or a grinder?

I bought a Pheer grinder 2 years ago. I have no experience with any other maker's grinder. I was marking drill holes to secure the grinder on a bench, and clumsily knocked the whole grinder onto the concrete floor. The motor housing sustained a cosmetic ding, but no functional damage. It...
