    Blade Show 2020

That's unfortunate. I've been hoping I could attend my first show there. I hesitate to call cancelations paranoia - they're prudent in light of the virus. The whole name of CoV2 is SARS CoV2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome CoronoVirus 2 (there are 2 strains). So they named it...

    Hamons, again

Don't laugh but you might consider using a hair dryer to blow off water immediately, then wipe the blade down with a micro-cloth. If the spots aren't a result of some unique hard water chemical reaction on the steel, I'd consider the atmospheric dust in the immediate area as a contributor. I...

    And Yet Another Bowie

That blade looks as good as it does rugged. I'd be proud to pull that out and put it use around the camp. Quality job.

    CIA's Flying Ginsu blades

Any one catch this article on CIA's Flying Ginsu? https://www.popularmechanics.com/military/weapons/a30175425/cia-blade-missile/. Hellfire R9X missile's kill radius shrunk from 721 feet wide to 30 inches from some 4 miles away... After reading the article all I could think was what super steel...

    Hamon procedure

I'd think ya have to dilute the muriatic acid compared to ferric or reduce the amount of time in contact. I've spilled muriatic from a pool supply store and was shocked at how fast it ate concrete. I haven't found ferric acid to be as violent ... might be due to the concentrations though...I...

    Serpentine Dagger

It's absolutely mind blowing when you see something so well made by hand. That blade is awesome.

Feel like the first man on the moon)

Like the profiles - great job. Always interested in seeing somebody's shop tools and what they've been able to produce.

    Gas forges in California.....

Guess Burger King is going to have a fit.

    304 bolsters?

Why are or is a bolster made from something different than the steel of the blade? Is it for a lack of same steel in pin stock?

    Gas forges in California.....

I didn't know they'd let you make knives in Berkley. And I had to laugh at Redbaird's comment on "crop dusted the entire site with round-up and DDT prior to calling the EPA" He's right, our bayous are filled with unfunded super sites waiting for the next hurricane to wash them out to the gulf.

    Filet O Thumb

Good to keep your thumb. I'm sure we've all had accidents and close calls. I've had my share. I always worry about nobody being home while I'm working with power tools.

A good book for a beginner knife maker

You might like Kevin Cashen's DVD on 1080/1084 - I got it and it's comprehensive, explained a lot more to me than the books I've read. Really helped me grasp the concept and fundamentals of HT. Plus you already know this forum is a virtual encyclopedia of knowledgeable professionals.

    Forge Hot Spots

Angled burner is the way to go apparently - I was fearing, after putting forth the effort, creating a significant hot spot without realizing or because of poor design. When you don't know - you don't know what to expect - and the folks on this forum are most constructively helpful. Time to...

    Forge Hot Spots

Thank you Ed. Glad to see you're up and check'n things out - I read on your site you were out for a bit. I'm pretty sure my first forge is going to be a smaller round gas forge with one burner, but I know without a doubt I'll find a legitimate need for a blown forge big enough for a crucible...

    Forge Hot Spots

Thanks Chris - I'm thinking you're right about it being easier for manufacturers to do it that way. I guess no matter which way it goes "hot spots" are unavoidable in forges ..i don't know...just didn't want to build one and have to factor a situation that would complicate the learning curve...

    Forge Hot Spots

I'm new to blade smithing and will have to build my own forge. I hope I'm not overthinking this... It seems Blade Smiths who understand their forge know where the hot spots are and the workaround to deal with it. When constructing a new forge I've seen the venturi's placed at offset angles...
