Then I rough ground it and profiled it to see if it was worth heat treating. I'm liking it so far.

I recently got me a forge good enough to weld damascus and made a billet. Then decided to weld up some 5/8 cable i was given from a friend. I welded it up and decided it was a little narrow so i decided to try my hand and forging a knife.

Next is guard building i have some damascus but its too thin and i think im gonna have to weld 2 pieces together to thicken it up. Wish me luck.

Then we hand sanded it to 600 grit and cut guard shoulders. Now its ready to etch.

Me and my dad have made ourselves a small billet of twist damascus. 132 layers of 1095/15n20 made partially by hand and with our new mini press we built.

Would a small forced air burner be better?

I am about to build a freon tank forge and will use 1" ceramic wool. I plan on welding small billets and some forging. I need to know the best burner and burner location. I have some plistix as well but nothing else locally. Do I need to order more stuff? Will one venturi get to welding heat...
