    Dark background

What Mike said, plus it always looks better once it is heat-treated. Give it a good etch, rinse and neutralize the etchant with ammonia, then boil it for a few minutes.... then dry and oil it.

Light weight forged hunter with some awesome redwood burl...

If you hadn't said the guard was g10 I'd have thought it was blackened steel....good way to keep the weight down and looks great too. In fact the whole thing looks awesome, you do some fine work man...:)

Second forged blade decided to try some of Aldo's "hamon special" 1095

Good looking blade! For tempering, I'd suggest 2 hours at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, then sharpen it up and test it. My usual test is whittling dry oak heartwood, but there are a lot of different ways to go about testing, the main thing you're looking for is if the edge is brittle and wants to...

    My Dirt Knife

Awesome concept, and beautiful result... you don't see many roadkill handles, but it is using what is available/recycling at it finest!

I like it! My very first knife was dubbed the 'mouse skinner', this one reminds be of it a bit, shape and size-wise.

    1084 performance as a skinning/ hunting knife?

It will stain, and dull a bit faster, but it is also so much easier to re-sharpen than the higher alloy steels, especially in the field.

    Weather

Tried to get some work done today, a balmy 22 degrees here... I lasted all of 20 minutes. When you can't feel your fingers, it is to cold to do knifework. Cold enough tonight to air quench W2.

    What's On Your Bench...

Some beautiful work, Steven and SHOKR... you guys have been busy, my bench is bare in comparison. Just finished these two up and will be shipping them to Finland tomorrow... 8" and 11" fillet blades in ladder and migration era patterns, 1084, 15n20, and w1. This one is almost handled now...

Can't call myself a knifemaker or can I?

Yes, cutler would be the appropriate term... it is an age old tradition in the Scandinavian countries for one man to make the blade and another to handle and sheath it. In the Japanese sword tradition one man makes the blade, another polishes it, another makes the metal fittings, and another...

    Brut de Forge Challenge

I'm in. No stock removal except for the final edge, and to keep it tribal I'll use a rock...:) I assume no time limit?

    Brut de Forge Challenge

Aye, I would think the tang will be the handle, and vise versa... I like to call therm one-piece wonders...:) I'm good with it, except I do not know how to sharpen a knife with just a hammer... I assume some degree of stock removal will be needed/allowed? Time limit?
