    The Neo-Tribal Metalsmith Art Movement

We had a neo-tribal KITH a year or two back, some beautiful work was presented... I really like the brut de forge challenge idea.

    The hand of God

Here's what this article brought to mind when I read it... "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them...

    The hand of God

Thanks for that Calvin... awesome... I'm about to start quoting Romans again...:)

    Do you believe God?

Really, if you get a chance, read the book of Romans, no other book of the bible spells out the gospel as clearly. "I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who thinks anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean." Romans 14:14 Therefore...

Colder than it has been since the 1920's apparently....

    Do you believe God?

I agree with you on some points, but I do believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God. It is hard to argue with prophecies being fulfilled, the odds are astronomical that these things happened by chance. If one is honest with oneself, the truth is unavoidable. God is real, and He has...

    Wakizashi question

A swordsmith once told me, if I wanted to make swords I would need to learn how to straighten warps. In other words, expect warp, and know how to fix it. You can get a hamon on 1084/1086, but not anywhere near as much activity as you could get with a more shallow hardening steel.

    My Cheap Craftsman Belt Grinder

I have a craftsman I bought back in 2000, I'm going to replace it with a real grinder when it dies, but it refuses to die....(it is starting to sound odd, that time might be growing close). Mine is the older 3-wheeled version with a larger disc that I'm not sure I could live without, I use the...

    Seeking results for 1080+/ 80CRV2

I too like to think of it a souped up 5160. The only thing it has in common with 1080 is the carbon content... Alpha Knife Supply's 1080+... Aldo's 80crv2...

    Seeking results for 1080+/ 80CRV2

Aldo started carrying it a few months back, and it is virtually the same as the 1080+ Alpha carries. I've heard good things about it, but haven't tried it yet. 1080, but with vanadium and chromium carbides, what's not to like about that?

little bowie w2, curly oak, copper

Kevin, that is a beauty. I particularly like the guard shaping, the blade polish, and the handle wood. I've been meaning to try aqua fortis on some other species besides maple, this gives me an idea of how it will look with oak.

    San Francisco style dagger question

Alex Daniels used basically the same method to shape the frame/wrap when he demonstrated at Batson's and Bowie's.

    Small Utility Knife

I love that sheath design, I've heard knives like this one called 'picnic knives' because they can be safely carried in a pack or basket. I really like the bone. Cool little knife.

    help hamon question

Finish the blade out to 120 grit or lower, and leave the edge about the thickness of a nickle. Normalize the blade, clean it up, and apply the clay, give the clay time to harden, then heat-treat it. Use as fast a quenchant as you feel comfortable using.... As for heat control, when steel...

    help hamon question

For the flashiest hamons, go with the lowest alloy content possible. Virtually any alloy added to streel other than carbon will increase the hardenability, and this is a bad thing for hamon development. Chromium is bad. Manganese needs to be kept as low as possible. W2, w1, and 1095 are...

Tong Styles - What does or Could work best for forging knives?

The ones on top in this image really impressed me with their simplicity and usefulness. Next time I fire up the forge I'm going to make me a pair like them.
