    Couple Of New Knives

Really liking the second one. And as mentioned, the hidden lanyard "hole" is a great touch.

An appeal / Photobucket just committed suicide!

If the forum host is kind/generous enough to allow users to upload images to their site, that is good. But if you wish to use that image elsewhere then it would be rude to link to the image on one forum for use in another forum. Eats up the first forum's bandwidth. I've been using SmugMug for...

    Forge Question

Doh! Didn't even think about that one. And that is the site I used to pattern my firebrick forge. :(

    Forge Question

A good forge resource (other than this site) is Wayne Coe's site, www.waynecoeartistblacksmith.com.

    Forge Question

Others would certainly know better than I, but... would it be better to place the "seam" in the wool under the brick? Or does that become irrelevant once the refractory is applied? @Wayne Coe ?

    LTWright Beginner Class...

Oh, you'll love forging class. Took the one offered here at our local club Southern Ohio Forge & Anvil (SOFA); 2 nights a week for 10 weeks. LOVED it. Probably shouldn't say this too loud around here but... I actually enjoy forging a little more than simply knifemaking.

The joys of online communication. With no facial expressions or body language to read then any text that is not explicit is very open to interpretation and also influenced by the reader's mood.

    LTWright Beginner Class...

Yep. They are in Wintersville, OH. They hold them a few times a year. Went through the whole process of making a knife via stock removal method. Started with a bar of O1 and two blocks of micarta. Rough cut the knives on the bandsaw, did some shaping on the belt sander, flattened one side of...

    LTWright Beginner Class...

Meh. Might not be of much interest to some of the fancy, long time makers around here but it is my first knife. And, I am personally pleased with how it turned out and the experience. I learned a lot, I got to spend time in the shop with guys who make a living making and selling knives. Not...

Had a blast. Learned a lot. Went through the process from bar of O-1 and two blocks of micarta to finished product. Crappy cellphone pic of the knife I made.

... so, anyone else going? Or been to one already? Signed up, packed, and heading over after work. Should be fun. Will be nice to see where some of the knives I have came from and how they are made. Best of all, I get to build and take one home. https://ltwrightknives.com/knifeclass.html...

    Respirator failure..

You are preaching to the choir here guys. I have no doubts that a mask is required. Was just trying to figure out if there was an option that would let me keep the beard (or at least a little stubble on the chin). During the couple hours a week I was working with coal forges last year... the...

    Respirator failure..

Wasn't sure. Last time I used a mask was in the early 90's in the USAF. No beards allowed then so wasn't an issue. hehe Then in the late 90's I got fitted again for a mask as part of the fire/hazmat team at a factory I worked at. No beard then just a mustache. So, no fit issues. And other than...

    Respirator failure..

So... Is it even possible to wear a respirator with a beard? Do they make a respirator that will actually work with a beard? I don't have a full on Duck Dynasty beard but I do like to keep a beard on my chin. Basic "footprint" is shown in pic below. Length varies with the season. Sometimes...
