Top and bottom crossbars are installed and bolted in place. Might get this build done before I retire. :34:

Finally got some free time. Work, graduations, chickens, and garden have been keeping me busy. Got the interior mudded with refractory cement and the brick is stacked and curing. Will assemble the rest of it (top and bottom crossbars) tomorrow. Then I'll have to start shopping for plumbing...

Not exactly forge building related but... Signed up for the LTWright Beginner Class later this month. Should be fun. And, should be a good kick start to the knife making journey. Will be nice to see where some of the knives I have came from and how they are made. Best of all, I get to build...

When is a knife a toy?

Varies too much from state to state to be worth the risk. Some states might allow possession but not sale. Other states vise-versa. Other states allow neither. Similar situation here in Ohio with Tannerite. Can buy and sell and possess. Can NOT mix and use without a permit. Federal law says it...

Well, some small progress last night. Found a vise that fit my drill press. Got the holes drilled into the two top firebricks and also got the pilot holes drilled in the two top plates. Thought I had a 7/8" drill to finish the holes in the top plates but no luck finding it in the tool boxes...

Anybody else have these LP company problems

Too busy to talk to a 1000+ galons a month customer?!?!?! Wow. When I was there, those are the customers we usually bent over backwards to keep happy.

Anybody else have these LP company problems

You are much nicer about it than I would have been. I used to work for a propane company (AmeriGas) and I know how long they leave tanks in people's yards. They would rather store them on your property than on theirs. Even though I worked there, I didn't mince words about this issue when we...

    welding in forged in fire

That is done by staff after the time runs out and the competitors are done. We've had two members of our club, Southern Ohio Forge and Anvil, on the show. One of them gave a presentation on his experience at one of our club meetings. Very interesting experience. Basically what you see them do on...

    Bandsaw

Made a number of cuts last weekend while working on my forge and am really liking my WEN. Runs smooth and cuts well. Money well spent. Can see I'm going to have to make some sort of support on the back side for long stock.

Getting closer! As you know from this thread and others... been gathering pieces and tools for a while now. Plan is to start with a designed based off the fire brick forge on Zoeller Forge website (http://www.zoellerforge.com/firebrickforge.html). Made some significant progress last weekend on...

    What's your production EDC today?

Been carrying this one for about 6 months now. Kershaw Speedsafe 1660OLBLK. Don't even remember buying this one; found it in my box of knives. The darned thing is SHARP. Within the first month or so carrying it it had bitten me twice. Have never had a knife this bloodthirsty before. First...

    Profitability check

Production runs... Yep, that is where I was heading with that post but got sidetracked. That is what I get for posting in a hurry. Did remember the disclaimer at the end of the formulas regarding it being a rough formula and subject to other variables though. Just gotta remember to set that...

Advice Needed - Brand new shop/tools.

Two truths from my days as a machinist that have stuck with me ever since... "Buy once, cry once." Ed's post above illustrates this one perfectly. "If you borrow something three times, it is time to buy your own." In our shop, we had no issues loaning the new guy a tool on occasion, it saves...

Just your basic Stacked Handled Knife

Going to jump in with some unsolicited gushing. I've got two of Reed's knives. One about the same size as the one above but with a butt plate and in nickel instead of brass and one about the size of a caping knife. Pics above don't do the justice. As beautiful as they are, they are...

    Profitability check

One set of formulas I've run into quite often related to various handmade goods... This is just a rough formula as it will depend on other variables such as competition, market, etc.
