A bit of a rant about user names on the forums

Yep. And I do see the other side as well. I'm coming at it from the standing as an individual and as an employee. What I do in my own time is purely me and NO business of an employer or co-workers. My user name affords me some modicum of protection. I have no issues sharing in the right...

A bit of a rant about user names on the forums

Can't speak for all the other users but my online user name is the same one I use everywhere. It is the nickname I use as an Appleseed instructor. It is the user name I use on all forums. I have no issues using my real name in PMs or emails. Those I often sign with my real name and "aka WY_Not"...

    Bit of a rant...

Find a solution that actually solves the problem and doesn't cause harm to innocents and I'll be first in line to back it. All of the solutions offered so far do nothing about the problem and only cause harm to innocents and law abiding. Deal with the criminals and crazies causing the problems...

    Bit of a rant...

Depending on what city, your odds might be better in the war zone. In 2012, the numbers I could find, Chicago had twice the shooting deaths as the military did in Afganistan. :34: As for the Florida nightclub... Metal detectors at the entrance or wands wouldn't have made a bit of difference...

    Made myself a Knife

Hey RW! Good to see you over here. Can't wait to put another of your knives into the rotation. Not usually a fan of big knives but that one looks great.

    Bit of a rant...

Uhmmm... This kind of "security" is exactly WHY the tragedy in Florida occurred and was as horrific as it was. Criminal protection zones do nothing to increase security; they put everyone there at even greater risk. These people, venues, and events want it both ways: they want to limit your...

I hate making sheaths bad enough.....

Very similar phenomenon can be observed with kids. Buy them a fancy new toy and give them a big cardboard box. See which one gets played with. :3:

What Calipers do you like? and what angle measurement tool to get?

Digital for the reasons stated above... easier to read, easier to zero, and easier to switch between English and metric. The exception was when I was doing checks during the machining process when there was coolant or oil all over the place. Then I'd use my cheaper dial calipers for quick checks.

    Anyone else using Ebates

Don't use Ebates but have you tried looking at an item on Amazon from Ebates and then looking at the same item on another computer by going straight to Amazon? Are the prices the same?

    Starting a knife making buisness

Even the tools, shop, and other meaningful assets can be protected. (IANAL but I've seen this model used at a few places I've worked.) Set up a second LLC/Corp. That LLC/Corp owns all tools, real estate, other assets of any meaningful value and leases them to the knife making LLC/Corp you've...

    Dust collection

So which is it? The method that exitium posted says to run downpipe from below water level. The thread that JawJacker linked to says to NOT submerge the downpipe.

    Old Old Hickory?

Thanks for the additional info. Will take a closer look once I get the blade cleaned up. Would be nice to figure out the origin of the knife but it is more academic than needed. I'm going to be cleaning up the knife and putting new scales on it regardless. Should be a fun project and hopefully...

    Old Old Hickory?

Thanks. Someone on a different forum suggested them also. And I was thinking they made a little more sense due to the lighter marks you mentioned and being a western company. Don't the Forgecraft also have their name engraved in the blade? Seeing no marks at all except the lines.

    Old Old Hickory?

Found the knife below while out in Wyoming. The blade has the distinctive Old Hickory line pattern stamped into the blade but it has NO markings that I can find anywhere. Don't they normally have the name etched in the blade and burned/stamped into the handle? Or is this one just so well used...

    Sharpening Help?

Yep. Dad and son both have the Lansky systems. Had to do some searching to find one of the older clamps for my son. Can't remember if we took the rubber pieces out or not. Wish they didn't cut them so deep though. For smaller knives the blade sits too far back in the step and the stones hit the...

    Sharpening Help?

I'll be the odd man out and vote for the Gatco version over the Lansky. I prefer the wider stones. Also the Gatco blade clamp has a step in it that holds the knife more securely and in a consistent position. The Lanskys used to have a step but the newer ones don't.
