A good source for distiller water.

I don't think you are getting distilled water. Distilled water is taken from boiling water, condensing this water by evaporation. You are just getting water from contact condensation with another surface that is a different temperature. And you are not removing the other elements that appear...

    Lockback folder spring wire help.

When I was making lockbacks I used 302 work hardening stainless. Makes a very good spring. It comes flat. Ann Sheffields Knifemakers Supply has it in three different sizes. If she does not have any, get back in touch with me. The washers of teflon work better.

Can I use 440C for bolsters?

Going back to the old days. And I'm talking about 1978. I never used any heat treated parts for bolsters. I used 303 for bolsters and guards. Still use it today on combat pieces. I only use titanium for liner locks. 440C makes good springs for slip joints.

    Steel supplier question

They are not shipped with the same finish. If you order hot rolled and annealed steel, the surface is just like it comes off the least sizing roll. The other finishes are surface ground, double disc ground, etc, etc. Find out what your supplier supplies and see what each steel finish will cost.

    Pheer Grinders Long Term Review

Have been building grinders for 35 years and I don't use heavy steel or thick steel to stop vibration. All wheels are balanced and aligned with each other. If you are having vibration it is in the wheels.
