Anybody Know what the durometer is on these wheels and the arbor hole size? They seem way to cheap to be true. If they run smooth "balanced" and have a durometer around 70, I would snag one of these ! Thanks, Clint

    NWG pictage

I really like the drill press column & table that you used for the work rest !! I need to find a few table top drill presses to use that way, even if they had the rack & pinion set up to raise and lower the table. Great idea, this would save a lot of time over building something like that ...

Moisture Meters- does anyone use them

I had a moisture meter for a while, then I got rid of it once I figured out how long it took to dry my wood in a dehydrator. Made my own with refrigerator racks some plywood, powered it with light bulbs to maintain a constant temp of 95 - 110 degrees. Only dried seasoned wood and kept it at temp...

What to look for in a Horizontal grinder?

Hi Laurence, I think you misunderstood me, you want to be able to adjust your work tables up an down the width of your belt. Adjusting the belt tracking should be just for that. I would avoid the machines with fixed work rests or "tables". I think the new machines that have the tilting tables...

What to look for in a Horizontal grinder?

I made my own, but I rebuilt it at least three times ! It works good, but it could always be better. If I were to buy one, I would look for one that has good sized work rests and has the ability to adjust with one easy knob up and down the full width of a 2" belt. Tracking the belt up an down is...

    Corby Bolts?

Please do not give up so easy ! You are drilled for Corby's might as well use them. Give me your mailing address and I will send you what you need for free. I also have Loveless screws, but do not use them anymore, not because they do not hold the knife together properly, because I think they...

    Corby Bolts?

I have had poorly machined Corby bolts from different suppliers, looking at yours, they need to be returned ! I am very positive that Jantz supply will correct the problem and make things right. On another note; I get all my Corby bolt supplies from POP'S, James makes them himself and is very...

    How To Make Damascus "Pop"!??

Hello, I use Alabama Damascus quite frequently along with many others. I use a 50/50 mix of vinegar & ferric chloride. I like a deep etch, so I soak my blades for over an hour sometimes, etching speed depends on temperature. My shop is usually on the cool side, sixty degree's. After the first...

    Holstex Carbon Fiber Pattern

Wow, that is some good looking material! What temp does it mold at? And does it mold as easy as kydex? I had some concealex CF and cannot get a decent mold from it, tried different heats and it just seamed to curl up and get funky. I believe I seen this new stuff on Knifekits web store. Thanks...

    Removing Tru-Oil finish from metal

Here is another way of dealing with oil finishes, try wiping on the oil and let it start to get tacky. Then briskly wipe off and hand buff with a soft cloth. Let it dry per instructions. You can do this several times for a "wet look" and great luster, no sanding or steel wool required. Or...

    Arbor press and bolster pins

I Think The Late Great Bob Engnath had a tutorial online somewhere showing how to make a precise peening jig. Probably a Google search would find it! I still do mine with a ball peen hammer and a tapered reamer for the countersink. Using pins & bolster material from the same supplier helps some...

    Cleaning up bar stock

I have Also been frustrated with the pits! Other than buying it already ground, I free hand surface grind my steel on a smooth contact wheel before cutting out the blade. I cut the bar about 1/2" to 1" longer than the blade I will be cutting out, this allows me to cut the rounded ends off. Using...

    9" Disk (flat) grinder

Hello, Is the variable speed a must? I have a 9" disc I built myself with a 1725 rpm 1hp ac motor, with a reversible drum switch. Served me well for many years! Clint

Why the heck does this keep happening to me

I have also found that misaligned grinder wheels will stretch belts on one side trying to adjust tracking to compensate, this will cause your belts to curl and have problems with alignment. Just a thought? Clint

    Lanynard Hole?

Hi Steve, I use a 6.4 mm drill, it's a few thou over 1/4". I also twist up some paper towel and stuff inside the tubing pretty tight, then cut off flush with a razor blade. that will keep epoxy out and is easy to push out later. Clint

    edge grinding help

Hi Cameron, I use a 20 degree block on a flat work rest to sharpen my knives edge up, before handles are installed, but that probably will not help you much. Doing the belly or tip of the knife should be like doing a hollow grind, once your grind starts leaving the strait part and getting to the...

    Edge rollover with CPM S35VN

One more thing to consider, Maybe the steel is not what it supposed to be? I have had the wrong steel sent to me on several occasions, sure messes a guy up when it comes to heat treating!! Clint
