    Looking for some advice.

I'm hoping to actually break down and order some real blade steel here soon. I'd like to do a few smaller EDC/utility style knives, as well as maybe a hunter or 2 in say the 4-5" range. I've got a couple of questions though, particularly more along the EDC lines. I've never carried a fixxed...

    Going in for repairs

Keep your head up! As mentioned above, DO YOUR REHAB THERAPY!! I've had both hips replaced in the last 18 months. It isn't always easy, but it's worth it in the end. And I'll keep ya in prayer too.

    First handle question

I'll keep that in mind Doug. Right now I'm just using an 8" wood rasp, the ones that are flat on one side, half-round on the other, and also coarse on on end, fine on the other... I probably just want it to go faster... lol maple does seem to be one of the harder, denser, non-exotics, at...

    First handle question

Thanks for the help and advice. I still need to finish my first blade, but I descided that since the handle on my cheap HF machete that I use for backyard brush was coming apart it was a perfect thing to try and rehandle, and get some practice in.

    First handle question

I knew the flat part :) I have the insides flat enough they have a slight suction/vacuum if you put them together. The outsides, I did try and get them close enough that my holes wouldn't be skewed, and it worked. Drilled the holes this afternoon, and everything fits pretty good, especially...

    First handle question

So I'm working at my first handle, and its a little slow going without a grinder, but I'm learnin, so thats cool. My question is this. What grit should I sand the inside of the scales to? They're natural maple. I took them to 150g on what I'm using for a surface plate right now, but...

    Copper foil??

I thought about that. I was concerned that it might be too thin (this stuff if in pretty much the thickness of printer paper). I was actually thinking maybe like leather inlays, or maybe some of the more experienced forge guys might be able to do something with it...

    Copper foil??

just a pic to illustrate what I'm talkin about a bit better.

    Copper foil??

I happened to think about it today, so I thought I'd ask... During one of the operations we do at my job, we end up with long scrap pieces of copper shielding foil. It's about 2-1/4" wide, and doesn't appear to have any coating on it, though it doesn't seem to corrode either. Because it's...

    Grinder design / build

Ok, change of topic, somewhat... Who can fill me in a bit on wheels? In digging around of the web, and here, I see most people using aluminum wheels, though I also see most people recomending urethane, or rubber surfaced wheels for contact use. I assume there's areason for this, but I'm...

    Bottom of Kbac box connections?

I spent 9 years working at an electrical supply house. We stocked a ton of them in various sizes. I do have to admit though that the place I worked at was/is probably among the largest 'independent ' elec distributors in the country. I would think any outlet that deals alot in commercial /...

    Bottom of Kbac box connections?

I would use what are known as "gland connectors", often called "erickson fittings " or "CG connectors". You'll need to know the size of the holes in the bottom of the Kbac, (probably either 7/8" or 1-1/8", which in the electrical world is 1/2 or 3/4 'trade size') and the od of your cords...

    Grinder design / build

I'll let you know. I'm not at all worried about the wiring aspect of a Vfd setup. While I'm not actually an electrician, I've worked in and around the electrical business for almost 20 years, between supply, construction, and now control panel construction / wiring (hence the handle)...

    Grinder design / build

Heh, yes, seen that very vid, part of why I am considering going the step pulley route... trying to figure out how to do the frame at this stage, mostly in terms of what materials I have, what I need to achieve, and how I can make the 2 meet.

    Grinder design / build

Ok. Got the motor issue beat to death at this stage. May see how things go, I do have a fairly large NEMA 4X enclosure I could mount a non-sealed vfd in. I think there's a couple extra 3/4 k/o punched in it, but for purposes of my use, those can just get covered in duct tape... I think...

    Vanishing plunge lines?

Look up Nick Wheeler on YouTube. He has at least 1, if not several very good videos on hand sanding

    Are all bandsaws this finicky?

I have yet to try my jigsaw for cutting blanks, but I'd be a little hesitant personally. In my experience, jigsaws are at their best when there's a relatively large piece of work for it to rest on. Also, some I've used have a tendency for chips to build up under the baseplate, and sometimes...

    Grinder design / build

I appreciate the input Wayne, I was actually poking around on your site the other night, just looking around to see what you have/offer. Yes, there will be expense in the shaft/pulleys/belts. And if/when I would go to a vfd/direct setup they would no longer be needed. My take on it is this...

    Grinder design / build

Thanks for the input. I had read your posts before Ed, about the spring, and was planning to take that into consideration. Given the pics I've seen, I think the problem lies more in the pivot, and spring attachment points, than the spring itself, but either way, I was thinking compression...

    Grinder design / build

So I figured that I would start a new thread, instead of clogging up the other one. I've come to the conclusion that my best option is to build myself a 2x72, as the smaller gringers I could afford will only lead to frustration, and I simply don't have 2k laying around at this point. After...
