Thanks Doug I appreciate the info. So in simple terms it retards work hardening.

We hardened & tempered my bowie blade (ATS 34). Tempered once at 375 for 2 hrs. then air cool. It now rockwells at 60. Data sheet called for another draw, 275 degrees for another 2 hours. Is this needed? How much lower will that second draw pull the rockwell down?
