    RIP Ron Nott

WOW! I had no Idea Ron was gone. This is a sad day. I only knew Ron via the knife forums but he was a great guy and a very talented artist in many different ways. Ron will be missed by many people I am sure. My condolences to his family and all his knifemaking friends.

Question about screw sizes and drill bits

OK guys, I have been reading and looking through a lot of charts on the web. I am having a bit of trouble with screw/drill sizing. Is there a chart that anyone knows of that will give me the following information for the most commonly used folder screws? For example: If I want to use a...

Had my first forging lesson Sunday!

Charlie, Glad you had a good time here. I guess the welding table proves that you don't HAVE TO HAVE a perfect anvil. Use what you can and get an anvil later. You could forge knives on this table forever. It is fun to see the light bulbs come on when you explain something to someone and I...

Gadzooks! New forum software is installed

I think the logon thing is the user's computer. I have a laptop and a desktop. The laptop is the first computer I used to logon after the change. EVERY time I come to the forum I am logged on and things are good to go. HOWEVER, every time I visit with the desktop (without logging off the laptop...

    Non Blade welding problem

Danny, If it were me, I would remove enough wire to get to clean wire and try it again. Wire is cheaper than liners. Just run the wire to the side of the liner entrance and shut off your gas supply. Pull the trigger and run it until all the rust is gone. You live in a rust positive...

    Non Blade welding problem

Danny, is the alignment correct? Did you recently put a new spool on the welder? Different wire size? Is it bird nesting? Is there rust on the wire? Has anything changed since you used it last?

    Plasma cutter

Thanks guys. There is quite a variety of blades stacked at this guys place and it would cost me a fortune at $25 each and would probably be worth just buying new. If they were all the same it would be a good idea. Thanks anyway. Bob

    Plasma cutter

Where do you get them tested and what does it cost? I have access to a LOT of saw blades of varying sizes and have not given them a second thought. If I could test them inexpensively it may be worth it to get a stock of L6 or 15N20.

    knife etching

I know I am being picky here but the Chris Crawford plans are really Bob Warner plans, Chris just asked me if he could do the tutorial and I gave permission. I have not said anything about this for a couple years mostly but I put a LOT of work into the etcher and stencil making box and sharing...

    Shop picture thread.

I would never get anything done if I had to search for tools all the time. My kid makes it hard enough by leaving tools all over the yard when he works on friends cars. I found a 5 gallon bucket full of tools AND WATER.Now they are all setting in a bucket of OIL trying to loosen them up.

Ever hit a roadblock that you just can't seen to get past?- or how to make a folder!

Frank that is a very generous offer and I appreciate it. When using washers, what washer material is preferred?

    RASP CAMP KNIFE

That is a nice looking knife. I usually do not like rasp (different pattern on each side) or other knives that are not completely ground but that is very nice. The bolsters are a nice touch.

Ever hit a roadblock that you just can't seen to get past?- or how to make a folder!

I just read the entire thread. He is very meticulous and does a great job. The etching looks like it works perfectly. When I start mine I will probably not do a WIP because life gets in the way and everyone would get bored. I may do it anyway and just not post it until the knife is complete...

Ever hit a roadblock that you just can't seen to get past?- or how to make a folder!

I thought of etching it. Can you provide a link to that thread (is it on knifedogs)? Seemed like it would be a good idea but I was keeping it to myself in case it did not work. If it did work I was going to tell everyone and be the next big hero, guess Ryan beat me to it. I have a lot of 2-56...

Ever hit a roadblock that you just can't seen to get past?- or how to make a folder!

It does not have to be very deep correct? Just a couple thousandths on each side?

Ever hit a roadblock that you just can't seen to get past?- or how to make a folder!

OK, now on to another question. I see where some people use washers and some relieve the area around the pivot by removing material. Is there a preferred way of doing this? Washers or relieving? I have seen a couple methods of removing material when relieving, what is a good way if you don't...

Ever hit a roadblock that you just can't seen to get past?- or how to make a folder!

Thanks guys. I have Chris' video so I better watch it again. Now what size screws, taps, drills and step drills are common? I would like to avoid a bunch of different sizes if possible. Can you just get all types in 2-56 and be good or the tiny (man, I hate tiny) 1-72's or similar? Also...
